There is such a randomness to this process due to things you can’t control - demographics, major, school, others applying, and what that school is looking for to piece together the picture of a puzzle the way they want it.
Here is an example of why you cannot take these decisions personally:
Rejected. Chemical Engineering.
3.98 GPA (uw); 4.4 (w)
ACT 36
SAT Chemistry 800
Lots of APs
President of Chem Club
Lots of ECs
Accepted: Notre Dame and UCLA and Georgia Tech
And this is not unusual, tons of kids with stats like this do not get accepted to USC. And students with lower stats and achievements get scholarships at other great schools.
IT IS NOT BEING KNOCKED DOWN THAT DEFINES YOU, IT IS GETTING BACK UP THAT DOES.
DO NOT LET ANY COLLEGE DENIAL ROCK YOUR WORLD. I am sorry for the pain, I get it. It’s real.
Be disappointed for a bit. Then turn it around. USC is great, but so is any school if you make it great for you.
Wow. I just realized that @bluepear2000 's inbox must be super flooded. They started this thread and now it has what, 2K+ responses? Yeah good luck going through all those responses!! :))
not all portals are down, prob just some routine maintenance. Shouldn’t be anything delcaratory. The most common way results are put out is just a CSV with a person’s ID in the first item, comma delimeter, and then their status. The portal then picks and chooses the information based on the status, and updates accordingly, adapting the already generic letter to something less generic
Just got my rejection letter, applied to Viterbi, GPA and test scores were not the best but had really strong recommendations & extracurriculars. I am also a legacy applicant & received TTP. Definitely will be applying next year! Don’t give up if you weren’t admitted, everything happens for a reason and if you are admitted: congratulations!
Accepted into Marshall! I’m in the 3-day zone but managed to get it today.
Congrats to everyone no matter the result. You guys tried your hardest and in the end, the result is out of your hands because you never know what’s happening behind the scenes. For every accepted student, there are at least two more perfectly qualified candidates. Don’t beat yourself over it!
No mail from USC today in Westchester NY - expecting rejection though for DS18 though DS17 got a USCPresidential scholarship (did not attend but it was very close decision - wanted closer to home so at UPenn!). Huge congrats to all accepted. Thanks to @CADREAMIN for all the helpful info you have provided.
@808college808 normally they dont. actually, they never do. considered a day off, since the US was based in religious roots, so sunday is off, for “gods day” or however people phrase that from company to company.
No letter or package in Birmingham, AL. I’m in a day 2 zone, but I have a feeling i was rejected and the letter has just not made it yet. I guess I will find out for sure on portal tomorrow.
@Hellloooooo
3.92 unweighted GPA 5.5 weighted (out of 6)
Top 5% of my class
11 AP courses (4s and 5s on all exams I’ve taken to date)
1440 SAT 32 ACT
President of two honor societies
Started a charitable foundation/movement
I would say especially good essays helped tremendously
@CA1543 Awe shucks, I’m sorry and not gonna say to wait for portal update and continue the angst, but if it comes through huge bonus right? Well maybe they will both be closer to home then?! And that is never a bad thing. My guess is your S is loving UPenn? Sorry we won’t be crossing paths here, maybe on the parent cafe if you don’t get other news tonight. Hope so!
Westchester, NY - I have only heard of 2 acceptances and I know a TON of very qualified people who applied (around 30) that all didn’t hear…we will see
