I live in SoCal and I’m eager to go home after school and check the mail box today, not that I’m expecting to get the scholarship but it would be nice!!
So if they were shipped yesterday, they would arrive today???
First post has generally been between 11:30-12:30am then of course ya need more posts to follow that up to verify it is all happening.
When they use to ship on Friday, they would actually surprise some local students by showing up at their house with their package on Saturday - Publisher’s Clearinghouse style. Haven’t see that for a couple years…the kids were always funny, more awkward than surprised or excited. From the reaction on CC, you would think people would be screaming in delight, but I think between the cameras and being awkward teenagers, it wasn’t the big bang you would think it would be.
does the package come from UPS or USPS?
USPS
Just got mail (SCAL) and nothing from USC. My son is probably out of race. Not sure if there is anything to do with him applying for dance and hasn’t auditioned yet but I assume school admission is separate from dance school so very likely just that he doesn’t stand out among all the amazing kids who applied. Good luck to everyone who are waiting!
@SCMHAALUM Actually, notices of merit offerings in January do always come with acceptance to a school for an assigned major too (at least as I have understood it). So it has always seemed like a greater challenge for those applying to the creative and performing arts majors… as not all factors, like auditions, etc., can be consistently worked out and finalized by this point in January.
nothing in the mail today in Los Angeles
@WWWard I see. This is very helpful info. He probably has a better chance of getting academic scholarship than dance, but dance is what he loves. He plans to double major in health science if he got in but he had to choose dance as his 1st major in order to be considered, probably all the creative and performing arts majors are like that. I guess we’ll wait and see how he does in his audition this coming weekend. Thank you!
@SCMHAALUM You’re welcome. It does seem like an extra challenge… especially for anyone applying for a BFA major. Look at the School of Cinematic Arts… only 2-4% of all BFA applicants are admitted. Couple that challenge with only 3% of all applying by Dec 1st gaining merit offerings. But… as a parent of two current USC students (who had applied for SDA and SCA), it can still potentially work out. Only 11% of this year’s admits will hear this week. 89% will hear in March. Good luck to your son.
@SCMHAALUM My son has sililar situation. He applied for double majors in Viola Performance and Computer Science. From reading from previous threads, I feel that scholarships from performance majors are given solely on your live audition. I think they wouldn’t give you a lot of schorships if you plan to do double majors.

You cannot apply to two different majors as first choice, even in RHP.
@WWWard out of curiosity, where are you getting the numbers for the number of applications submitted 12/1 or before and totals submitted by 1/15. I’ve seen reference to 30000+ by 12/1 etc. and didn’t know if these were guesstimates based on past trends or if this was published somewhere.
They are published. Here is last year’s rejection of merit letter:
Dear Student,
Scholarship Selection
Nearly 32,000 students applied in time to be considered for USC merit scholarships. We have offered admission to approximately 1,200 students who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for our top awards: the Mork Family, Stamps, Trustee, and Presidential scholarships. (Student), I am sorry to say you were not selected for further consideration for these awards.
Then of course they publish total applicants which was 56,675 in the class profile. So 3.75% of early applicants are offered the next phase of scholarship consideration, which ends up being 2.1% of total applicant pool. Scary numbers.
Any 1600 SAT’s with a 5.0 GPA in this group? They certainly would have a decent shot at getting something and they can be our barometer.
@devon123 Current estimates based on prior published #s and USC Admission letters to prior applicants.
@CADREAMIN Thank you can you advise where?
@WWWard What’s SDA and SCA? Kaufman is comparable to Juliard, about 20/500 chance for girls to get in. Guys have much better chance than the girls but it’s still very hard. I understand the high amount scholarships are allocated to individual schools so it makes sense we don’t hear back now since he may not even get accepted. Thanks for sticking around to help us with this!
@CADREAMIN my son has to put Viola Performance in the 1st choice major in order to get in the slide room and submit his pre screen videos and Computer Science in the 2nd choice major. I’m confused as well. Will he get scholarships from his academic major? He does have good scores, 1560SAT and 1500 PSAT AND He’s a junior applying RHP.
