@caleegalee, It is frustrating but I suppose USC really wants students to get the surprise in the mail. Good intentions, and all, but in the age of the internet, social media… it may be causing more angst for some than joy for the relatively smaller number who are fortunate to get the white box. I would prefer an email at the same time to all recipients or a portal update, but it’s just one opinion.
@WWWard, kudos to both your daughters for getting in to USC, but your youngest for sure showed tremendous persistence and guts to take a chance on being able to transfer to SCA. Glad it all worked out for both of them and your family. And thanks, by the way, for your well thought out and reasonable posts here on CC.
I haven’t heard of anyone saying it shows up in Informed Delivery Digest. I don’t think it does, but jury still out on that. I believe USC would have to enable that and they don’t.
@berkeleyboundpls, congrats on your accomplishments and being offered the Presidential Scholarship. Taking nothing away from your stats, because they are very strong, you have excellent ECs and leadership positions. To me it shows that very strong, but not “perfect” standardized tests and grades are needed to be considered for merit at USC. Holistic evaluation is a good thing. Great job and good luck on your interview!
Do people who are no longer being considered for a merit scholarship receive a letter saying so? Or does USC assume you can deduce that by not getting a package?
@sprinter1 it’s a supportive and positive site and yes, it seems like everyone gets them but we know most don’t. I am always impressed by the graciousness of posters on here during this stressful time.
Thanks, @Nomorelurker and glad to help as I can here. I found CC very helpful over the past few years, so just trying to pay it forward.
And totally agree about the mailing and then delayed portal update. Good intentions, but there are simply too many cases of unnecessary angst. It affected us last March, as every one getting admitted near us in FL received their white boxes, while my daughter’s arrived three days late and even a day after the portal eventually updated. So she was crushed unnecessarily and then revived later. I agree that they may need to just evolve with the times… unless they want to pay for a more reliable carrier / delivery method for those white boxes. Nice idea in theory, but the US Postal Service is a government entity and prone to errors/delays after all.
And no… CC postings of happy/relieved reactions are not a very accurate reflection of the overall pool… even if all 1200 found a way to post their good news. 97% (or 30K+) of those who applied by Dec 1st will not be getting a white box this week.
@syd2ranger, it was posted earlier that NYC and Jersey can be day 2 or 3. Not getting it on day 2 does not mean a rejection. You may get it but if not, you’ll likely find out on the portal update.
Just want to say a simple “thank you” to @CADREAMIN and @WWWard for being so gracious in your dedicated efforts to assist us newbies with information. THANK YOU HEAPS!
