@pennplz You might have to wait and see tomorrow, but otherwise, you just wouldn’t get the merit scholarship and get deferred back into the pile with the Jan. 15th applicants. Then they’ll notify you by April 1st.
@chrisclassof2022 Thursday night (11:59pm) / Friday morning (12:01am)
No one is getting rejected this week, but around 1200 of the 30K+ who applied by Dec 1st will be getting admitted and receive some form of merit offering this week. They were mailed out yesterday, and the admissions portals will update on Friday. You do not need to keep checking it though, as you will also get an email when it updates. The email will either confirm your admission and merit offering or simply let you know that your application is continuing until all final decisions are reached and announced in the same manner in late March.
And keep in mind that only around 11% of those admitted each year are admitted in January. 89% are admitted in March.
If it says full tuition scholarship it should be printed on bottom ( maybe top) of a glossy brochure which scholarship you r being considered for. I remember my D getting last year. On bottom of her materials it said Trustee.
@thewait123 The top 4 USC scholarships are awarded to students interviewing for them in this round- Mork, Stamps, Trustee and Presidential (1/2), and some Dean’s (1/4-no interview) are awarded. Some scholarships are still awarded later with regular admission notification such as USC Associates and University scholarships, and National Merit (1/2 equivalent), so don’t give up hope! Senior USC son received Associates plus a University Scholarship as part of regular admission. Freshman USC daughter is a Trustee and will be hosting this year. Fight on and try to stay positive!
I stopped checking this thread at around 2:00 because I had track practice and then I log on at 7:00 and I had 212 notifications just from this thread haha its nice to read everything though! And yea San Diego here and I got nothing sooooo fingers crossed for tomorrow. Damn I’m stressed I have my finals tomorrow too. Say I don’t get the scholarship, would my mid-year reports matter a lot? i’ve been getting mixed answers from people – some say that a mid-year report doesn’t really matter and some say it is one of the most important things on the transcript. And my grades are looking a lot less than stellar this semester (I hate to make “excuses” but I do have a bunch of personal/emotional stuff going on right now). I know this isn’t really related to most of the things discussed in the thread right now but does anyone have answers? Also if it does matter a lot, should I email admissions updating them on my life and the stuff going on right now (I just really hate making it sound like I’m making excuses when I’m really not)
Also, I should add that box took over 3 days to arrive to our PNW town, and her portal loaded the day before the box came. People in UK, India and Asia received the anticipated white box before she did! Patience!
@WWWard I know that the general idea of the last statement in your post (722) is somewhat obvious since such a small number get the merit package, but putting it in numbers really helps me be less anxious – thank you. With this current flurry of discussion it’s hard to remember that what happens in January really isn’t everything. I do know that not receiving a box this week will not be the end of the world, but there is so much build up to checking my mail tomorrow that I can’t help feeling nervous. I am definitely a cold, hard facts person, though, so getting the numbers to prove that this week isn’t critical really does alleviate some stress for myself, and I imagine others, as well.
@pnwfam that is so crazy that only 1 or 2 states away took longer than some international students!!! I’m in the PNW too so I think it’ll be the same wait! At least the portal is an option soon!
@happywaffles It matters… but it is only 1/7th of your overall cumulative GPA. It likely matters more and will help more if positive or showing a positive trend for those on the bubble.
@18college1111 you’re welcome. Yes… that is sort of my point. I have both of my daughters at USC now and neither were admitted in January. Most aren’t. A merit offering and learning early is nice of course for the 3% (1200 or so out of 30K+ applying by 12/1), but basically 9 out of 10 of the people at USC right now learned their fate in March - not January. Good luck still though…

You would have to scroll through “USC Class of 2021 decision/stats only” page to find individual applicant stats for who received what, but most accepted students do not share stats. Mine would not and I would not do it for them. Try to relax and trust the process! USC is awesome, but our oldest went elsewhere and had a great experience. So much of college depends on what you put into it, no matter where you end up attending. Sounds cliche, but really true!
@happywaffles wow i’m in kind of a similar situation as you! my grades havent been great this mp because i’ve had a lot going on and i have midterms tomorrow. hopefully mp1 mp2 and my midterms average out well and i end up with decent grades for the mid year sigh
@gabbayy You’re welcome. Yes… time will tell. Of course, there is also the option to try and attempt to internally transfer into SCA if admitted to USC undeclared or to another major. My daughter followed that path successfully.
