USC Class of 2022

Gah, just got an email from USC. Almost had a heart attack until I opened it and it said “Financial Aid Resources…” Their torture tactics are really working!

@sprinter1 SAME!

@sprinter1 Lol same I freaked out

I’m from San Diego and I haven’t received anything… This is very nerve wracking as USC is one of my top choices. So we should expect the portal to be updated at 12:30 AM PST?

^^^ around then and over the next few hours. They will email you to let you know when to check…

Got the same email! My heart was pounding LOL

@usma87 Yes indeed. Sorry. It is always disheartening, but the reality - especially in January - is that 97% of those applying by Dec 1st (or over 30K) are discouraged/disappointed. And there can be so many reasons… the major being sought, geography, matters related to diversity or URM or First Gen, etc. Despite these being merit offerings, many factors are under evaluation… and not just the standard stats used by many for comparison. But only 11% of all those admitted in any cycle are admitted in January. 89% are admitted in March. Of course, USC is too expensive for many who need the merit money to even consider it. So again… sorry. And good luck.

@LvMyKids2 Well that’s embarrassing, you are 100% correct, it’s printed on the brochure, it’s not in the letter. Thanks.

@CADREAMIN and @WWWard - you are both doing a great job. I really appreciate all the patience you display with all us newbies. My boys will do fine. But like any parent, want the best for them and get frustrated when things don’t turn out perfect, every time. I’ve been told to ‘chill’ a few times (by wife and kids). They have a good shot at admission in the NMF category. But there is the unwritten rumor that even those are not unlimited as they were a few years ago. Again, sorry for the rant. Too many hours on the road in traffic today. Good luck to all who have interviews.

@usma87 Certainly glad to assist as I can. Understood. Best of luck moving forward…

Did anyone that already got a box get the same email??

@usma87 There has been between 211-245 NMF scholars the last several years. I really haven’t heard of a decrease in those and they were certainly never unlimited. I think chances are as good as they have always been. Hope so!

@collegebound1212 Yes, got the box and financial aid email.

Did anyone who lives outside the US got the box?

Got the box yesterday and the financial aid email today

Shout out to first receiver @yldad1!

Just received an email about applying for Topping scholarship. It says it requires two letters of rec; can these be the same as my two teacher recs on common app or do they have to be separate???

They can be the same.

2018 USC Merit Notification Planning Meeting Agenda

A. Goal - make people crazy

  1. Change day of week to send packages, confusing even the most experienced followers

  2. Send financial aid info with Informed Delivery Digest same week as merit notification

  3. Send merit packages with no Informed Delivery Digest notification

  4. Use USPS because of unreliable deliver schedule

  5. Send financial aid email just hours before portal updates (this should really freak them out)

  6. Update portals when everyone should be sleeping

I’m in the midwest that still hasn’t gotten the box yet. Hoping that this portal actually updates tonight cause I adjusted my nap schedule so i’ll be up until 3-3:30 lmao
