USC Class of 2022

@bluehurricane Their response leads me to believe you aren’t a full or half tuition scholarship candidate. But others have posted that, as an early admit, you will probably get a 1/4 tuition Deans scholarship. Maybe a follow-up email would clear it up.

Speaking of Deans, I haven’t seen anyone with a Deans scholarship from when the scholarships decisions were released last week. Could it be possible that USC is notifying those with Deans in late March instead of January like they usually do?

@ChenXiaoYun , what are some of the main issues with the food in the dining halls? Are all the same? I think I read somewhere that the one by Parkside is slightly better? Wonder if the one at the Village is just taking time getting up and running?

@WWWard, sorry to hear about the housing issues that your D is experiencing. Hope she is able to work it out and get the housing she wants.

@Nomorelurker Thanks.

As for the residential dining halls, they are different. And they are also different even from themselves depending on the day. But there are websites and apps that can alert you to the daily menus to track the changes.

My older daughter always preferred Parkside to both EVK and Cafe 84 (no longer there, now a large Starbucks I believe). Now they both still prefer Parkside overall, but the Village is apparently at least better than EVK. Of course, these types of things are always subjective.

I recommend the Gold meal plan vs the default Cardinal meal plan, as it throws in an extra $500 in discretionary dining dollars you can use anywhere for an extra $320… i.e. - a free $180. My kids at least appreciated being able to go eat at on campus places other that the residential dining halls and Starbucks, etc. vs only having the three base options all the time.

Thanks @WWWard. When we visited last year, it looked like the Tutor Center had some nice options like California Pizza Kitchen. We liked Lemonade as well. We walked by a Starbucks which I think was near the Leavey Library?

@Nomorelurker You’re welcome. Yes… the food court at TCC is very popular. It has a # of restaurant options plus a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (which my girls prefer to Starbucks). There is another Coffee Bean at SCA. As for Starbucks, there are three I believe… one near EVK ( & also the only USC Hospitality venue that’s open 24/7), one in between Fluor & Webb - where Cafe 84 was… and one in the USC Village.

UPDATE on scholars housing–it does appear as though everyone who wanted to stay in honors housing in the village for their sophomore year was granted that wish (at least from what my son knows). So, another perk to consider is that scholars can choose to live in the village for two years in the scholars community! (Yes, including NMF scholars, who really are treated the same as any other presidential.)

Was anyone informed that they received the Deans scholarship in the early wave of acceptances? I haven’t seen any and I’m wondering if maybe they are sending those out with the regular acceptances in March…? I’d love to know if anyone has already received one, though!

Have some applicants been admitted already?

@jchoibokchoi Yes… around 1200 of the 39K who applied by Dec 1st were admitted when they received their scholarship offering in late January.

I applied after Dec 1. It really doesn’t mean anything, right? It’s not like I have less of a chance or more now?

Any word on when non-scholarship people find out if they got in?

@jchoibokchoi Traditionally, 11% or so of all those admitted each cycle are admitted in January. The remaining 89% or so are admitted in late March.

@billybobby54 Late March.

Does anyone know when in March they will hear- or when they have traditionally heard. I know someone stated many many pages earlier, but cant find it.

^^^ last year, it was the week of March 20th.

True dat. They were mailed on/about March 23rd last couple years.

hey guys, i was admitted as a presidential semi-finalist, so I am going to one of the explore USC days for an interview. If i have to fly in out of state (very far), do parents have to come (or do they typically come?)

also, what is the best housing option? I heard that everyone wants McCarthy, so i dont expect to get that one, but what are some good second choices?

did all engineering applicant receive a mail from VSE on application?

Who else is anxiously awaiting for decisions to come?
