@symonaidanasa You wouldn’t be the first to miss the TTP information in the rejection letter. Most people skim the first couple sentences then ignore the rest of the drivel about the “very competitive applicant pool blah blah blah…”
If it doesn’t start with, “We are happy to inform/admit…” it is easy to think you should disregard the rest of it!
@TreeAlum Thanks so much for the insights on the honors science program. Our D did not get an invite, but she’s an accepted chem major with 790 math SAT, did well on SAT subject tests, and a 5 on the AP chem test. Taking BC Calc now. Do you think she should try to get in, or are they looking for something else?
Every one will do great at USC and in the future whether in honors or not. They are kids and they have to take learning so, so seriously to get accepted to great schools. I hope they find time to have fun. I worry about all the pressure they put on themselves.
@sonsav@gonebythewind You can change your user name, after it is created. I did the same thing as you and then saw that students were using their real names.
@collegemom111111 The FSH invites don’t come out quite yet from what I remember. I’ll have to ask my daughter. I think it was about a week later? You can contact the FSH administrator. They have a short application with a few questions that require maybe a paragraph each? Check out this page: https://dornsife.usc.edu/apply-for-fsh/ You can see it is not updated for 2019 yet, but you see the approximate date. You can always email Judy, the administrator. If she is a chem major, she would like enjoy the extra challenge of this program.
@scmhaalum I don’t understand. Was your son specifically told that he was denied acceptance because dance was his first or only major of choice? Why would Kaufman exist, with a whole 4 year curriculum, if an applicant can’t major in dance only? My daughter applied to Kaufman, as a transfer and dance major only. It was an anxious process. She hasn’t heard anything, so the thought is that her rejection letter is in route.
@MadisonWI my daughter is in thematic option. There is a lot of information on the USC website. From what I know, they accept around 200 kids each year. There were several essays in the application. But they were very out of the box. My daughter was so burnt out from writing college essays but had fun with the TO essays. The only one I remember her mentioning is to write about something you’re ambivalent about. TO is geared towards students who love reading and writing.
I think there are 6 TO classes that they can spread out over their time at USC. They fulfill most of the GE requirements except for I think 3. My daughter has taken four TO classes so far and has loved each one. They are a lot of reading and writing but those are her strengths. Classes are small and interdisciplinary in nature.
@collegemom111111 That’s great to hear! The FSH program is pretty small - about 60-70 kids - and they do get to know each other pretty well, especially if they are in lab together. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.
@sonsav@gonebythewind@filmmomvt I did the same thing–random name on the USC housing portal. I’ve gone back in but I can’t get into the section that would allow me to edit his name. Did you all figure it out–any helpful tips?
@CADREAMIN how can I private message you? i was recently accepted to usc and a few other universities and would appreciate your insight on them, but do not want to put too much personal information on the public forum.
@WWWard oh, okay! I have been following this thread for quite a while but just made an account now to get some perspectives on my college options. you and cadreamin have been very helpful in this thread so thank you! if possible, could you PM me?
@FlyerDad : go under application tab, then Roomate selection, keep going a few pages then after you see suggested roommates scroll down under that. You will see accepted roommates, requested roommates, search for roommates, and other roommate features. It’s under the last one- says update your online profile.
