USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

@WWWard and @CADREAMIN So, if USC does not give out the Dean’s until March with the final decision letters (this I think changed as of last year), is EVERYONE considered for Deans (even the ones that filed 1/15 non-merit deadline)? Or are the ones that are considered for Deans still the students who did indeed file by 12/1. I now wonder what the wording is on applying by 12/1 (which I could go look at - but will wait)…is it for consideration of ALL merit at USC (Trustee, Presidential, Deans, Associate, etc) or just the Trustee/Presidential (which is January)?? Any ideas or thoughts on this.

@NewPoster123 the wording for the 12/1 deadline was all scholarships, including the 1/4 tuition. I just looked. We were surprised no Deans came in January for any students across the country, but now makes sense that the letter said Deans could come in March.

For all accepted students, please use the decisions thread

@NewPoster123 I would still believe that the 12/1 deadline applies.

Thanks @WWWard got it!

@mkate75 you’re welcome… and congrats

This thread remains the primary discussion thread for accepted and those waiting for March decisions and will grow to several more thousands of posts through March, those with notification issues should disable them.

The following is a decision/stats ONLY thread (no conversation) for accepted students, thanks to those who have posted so far:

@collegemom111111 Just catching up, …do you mind me asking what major she applied to?

@SlimJim005 Glad things well with your dad and sending good thoughts your way. This college process can be brutal - but I know plenty of kids that ended up attending what they thought was their “last choice school” from their list and ended up loving it and thriving there. Happens all the time! Still a lot of decisions to come out (including USC), we are rooting for you!

@CADREAMIN Would you recommend emailing USC and telling them that they are my number 1 choice and, if admitted, I would 100% attend? I saw a previous poster, WWWard I believe, said that we should email them.

My D2018 got a white box a year ago this time so I thought I would toss in some info.

DD went to explore for presidential even though she was NMSF- close to sure NMF. She got presidential from interview…and an extra five digit college-department cholarship money’s on top. Also, outside corporate NMF scholarship and additional large outside scholarship. USC has been more than fair in stacking all the different funds so we only pay part of the meal plan. They counted all her money’s that came in to her benefit.

Several kids who interviewed for presidential with DD were bumped to trustee and likewise DD knows persons who interviewed for trustee but were bumped down to presidential. To get bumped up you seem to need to fit a niche USC looks to fill out…but this is just speculation from a couple of relayed Instances.

DD is enjoying USC but at times bemoans not going to an easier school where she could coast to straight A’s. She is working hard to keep her B average in CS at USC.

Congrats @sekere62.

And just to clarify, the NMF scholarship and Presidential do not stack. The stacking referred to the departmental and outside scholarships.

Getting bumped up from Pres to Trustee is certainly possible, but not common, just don’t want to set unrealistic expectations. It is certainly worth everyone that got Presidential invites going to try, including NMFs. You can also be bumped down from Trustee to as low as a Director’s which is 4K. Interviews matter.

And remember FA received versus USC merit, it does not stack on top of it.

Will getting three Bs and two As this quarter make them not accept my application? I received all As except one B+ last quarter (GPA 3.82).

Hi! New to this thread, and there’s a lot to catch up on so sorry if I’m asking something thats already been answered! When do we find out our decisions? Is it all at a specific date or do they come out in waves?

They all come out at same time around March 20-22nd most likely. They mail packages then do portal update a couple days after mailing. In the past, USC posts (via Twtter) when the packages are put on the truck.

@applicantXIX No mid-year B is gonna fully tank your application, the mid-year reports are mainly there to make sure that you’re still putting in effort during senior year; what’s more important to your application is everything else that you’ve accomplished before that

I’d recommend not getting Cs or below though

@WWWard Thank you for the link and good advice!’
@CADREAMIN You asked her major. It’s chemistry. Thank you!

The two white boxes finally arrived at our house yesterday, along with the Polar Vortex. The USC-Chicago delivery took 6 days by USPS this year. Outside: White box with USC Seal on one side, addressee on the other.

Inside: Nice crimson folder shaped as an envelope tri-fold, containing . . .

  1. "Certificate of Admission" on right with Child's name, Dean of Admission signature and year, made to look like a diploma;
  2. Congratulations letter from Kirk Brennan, Associate Dean/Director of Undergraduate Admissions;
  3. Official Admission Conditions and Further Information (containing major, school, any pre-professional emphasis
  4. Welcome to USC booklet (letter-sized)
  5. Experience USC booklet (letter-sized, detailing various admitted student day programs)
  6. Living at USC: Freshmen 2019-20 (letter-sized, very helpful booklet detailing the various housing options)

Thanks again WWWard, CADREAMIN, and s0meUSCkid95 for the hand holding, reassurance, and reliable info during this extremely anxious period. I will do my best to pay it forward!

@magbertus01 As I have suggested to others, you may wish to read this excellent article on the Insider’s Guide to USC Admissions…

https://news.usc.edu/trojan-family/a-guide-to-uscs-college-admissions-process/

Within it, an admissions officer actually states: "Students often ask me how they can let the admission office know that USC is their first choice. It’s simple: Just tell us. Tell us in your application, over email, telephone or in person. And we make note of that. We add these things to your files if you ask us to, and we keep them in mind as well.”

Again… if you do so, I would not overburden them. At this point, I would tell them only once and via email - directly to your assigned admissions counselor with maybe a CC to the admissions email for the specific School that you applied to. But you may also want to share a key well-researched reason for your statement. And of course only make a definitive declaration if true. I cannot speak to such an approach being all that helpful. It may actually depend on your overall candidacy and how such a declarative statement is being presented. But both of my daughters did make similar statements via email to USC. And they were both ultimately admitted in March.

Good Luck

what major? area of interest?

Just curious if somebody applying for Thornton School of Music got a box. My DD is doing her live audition this Feb 9
