USC Columbia 2nd Review/Deferred students 2023

@macusc we are out of state

@macusc we are in a similar space. Deferred to 2nd review. Out of state.3.93 GPA and 1180 SAT. Tons of service, activities, and work. Essay on character. USC #1 choice so the wait is so stressful. When I spoke to admissions, they did tell me there is no method as to how the decisions are going out. I surely do wish they would release all the answers at once so we could make decisions and plan or move on. Thanks to all who are so encouraging.

I sure hope you both hear something. It seems like they are being very picky when it comes to out of state. I even heard they are picky to applicantā€™s majors. This whole process is very frustrating. Iā€™m sure there is a method to this madness, but wish they would make it clear to everyone. We struggled during the Christmas break hoping for a letter and nothing. We finally got our second review like many did in January and it was dated December 10!! We are in stateā€¦crazy!! However, we did finally receive our YES packet on 2/4. Anyway, my husband and I both graduated from USC and it has changed so muchā€¦so many applying and much more in demand than when we were there.

@macusc, they shouldnā€™t be too picky on the applicantā€™s major. My daughter was accepted last year to Univ of SC, and during the orientation process, you could change your major to just about anything else, with the exception of a handful. My daughter had friends that went from Engineering to Biochemistry major at the orientation process. My daughter started with a BS in Chemistry and she ended with Biochemistry. It almost seems like applying as undecided would be best for the lower stat kids.

My daughter still has not heard back after her second review notice in January. She has already been accepted to 8 of her 10 colleges and deferred to 2. We already are planning a spring trip to visit her top choices. She is not sure if the trip will include South Carolina. We will make final plans once we hear back.

Did anyone get a YES packet after their status page changed from the 2nd review notice to McKissick?

Just wondering what other schools do your kids have as their next choice if USC doesnā€™t work out?

Does anyone else no longer have the second review message at the top of the application status and instead itā€™s just empty?

Univ of Alabama , The Citadel , and Ole ā€˜Miss

I no longer have the second review message and have also been switched to a different admissions counselor. I am hoping this means a YES is coming. Please post if your page has been changed and you get a decision. This waiting is so stressful.

CofC

My d19 is Auburn, U Tennessee - possibly Ole Miss

yes, our secondary review box is gone also.

We have been accepted at U of Alabama, Mississippi State, Wingate and U of Tennessee

does anyone know the acceptance rate for deferred students?

A mom on the Admissions 2023 thread just posted she called and spoke with an admissions counselor about the second review status change. He told her it was insignificant and all decisions will be going out over the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Our second review banner is now gone as wellā€¦this is the slowest, most painful process weā€™ve had to deal with thus far. My DS applied to 7 schools, 3 OOS and 4 in PA where we are from. He was accepted to Univ of Tampa, Coastal Carolina, LaSalle, West Chester & PSU. Not sure what the 2nd choice will be, apparently he wants to drive me nuts and not share that info, lol!!

Has anyone that was picked for the second review been accepted to the Arnold School of Public Health for exercise science??

I totally agree. This has been the most painful process.

My son is still considering UNCCharlotte, Winthrop, UT, and CofC. Winthrop was actually his first choice, but somehow this wait has made USC his first, seems backwards but the longer he waits on the USC answer, the more he seems to want it.
