USC Financial Aid

Sorry if I missed anything on this thread, but I got a VERY generous financial aid package (over $45,000 in scholarships and grants). However, I still haven’t received an email. It seems unlikely that i could get any more, seeing as I wasn’t selected for the trustee or presidential, but is there still a chance there could more coming?

If you see at least a Stafford, a USC grant, and a USC scholarship that is probably a complete package - congrats!

Thank you you are so well informed. I appreciate your information
My S already submitted the response and paid for his deposit. But he was thrilled and couldn’t wait to have the search behind him.

Just throwing it out there: If you didn’t get your financial aid by today, you are screwed. I called today and my fafsa and CSS never sent. (Yes I tripled checked and I know I sent it since I paid.) So now, I have to wait at least 2 weeks. I am beginning to lose hope of being a Trojan.

@ hellokitty2: So what does it mean if I haven’t gotten the email yet? Under “Document Status 2011-2012” it says that USC has received my FAFSA and CSS Profile.

They told me they sent a huge batch today in the morning. Yes, mine also saids it has been received. No, I didn’t get an email. I’ve just been super worried, but I called yesterday and they told me to wait till Friday to call back. But they said., for sure, if you don’t get it by friday, then you need to call.

Wait it out for a day and maybe call on Monday? It’s a rolling basis, so ask around your friends and see if they got it and submitted after you, then you should call.

It’s in my spam x.x found it. Thanks anyways :)

I got the financial aid email. Now I’m looking for ways to supplement what little I received;

I got $5500 worth of Stafford Loans as well as $5000 worth of scholarship. Apparently, I do not qualify for need-based aid beyond that. I can only assume it’s because of equity or stocks that my family holds, etc.

However, an EFC of $48.5k is still really expensive for us. What can I do to get more aid? Should I be looking to appeal?

USConnect also still showing that my S’s award is “undetermined” but I know the reason for this is we sent them the W-2 that was requested just yesterday, the same day as the e-mail my son received asking for this info. Previously, they requested a tax return which we sent as soon as they requested it. Before that, it was something else they had requested. I’m not sure why they are not requesting additional information needed all at the same time. It is most likely something we did wrong from our end.

so I was accepted back in mid-january, and I was offered an interview for the presidential scholarship (half-tuition) but I couldn’t go because my family couldn’t afford the plane tickets.

my other college options didn’t turn out so well, but I’m highly considering USC now because I got into the thematic option program/honors college recently.
I’m calling the financial aid office tomorrow to explain that I couldn’t go to the interview, but I’m still interested in the school and I’d like to know what scholarship options I have. does anyone have any experience with this?

my mom is sending out the w-2 and custodial forms as soon as possible, we didn’t know they were needed until a few days ago. I still haven’t received a financial aid packet, but from my other school’s FA my family contribution is somewhere around 15k/year. would USC cover the rest, or should I look at loans?

USC will calculate a USC-determined need, and they will not consider another school’s calculation in doing so.

Be sure you have submitted the CSS/Profile, the FAFSA, copies of tax returns and W-2s (it sounds as though you are on top of all that, but it never hurts to double-check). You should hear within 2 weeks of submitting all the required information. Be sure to check your USConnect regularly in case they request additional information.

Congratulations on the Thematic Option acceptance - it is a GREAT program. I hope the financial aid makes it possible for you to attend. Good luck!

I submitted the fafsa and css profile when it was first requested but I was not able to send my parents’ tax returns until March 31…about when should I get my financial aid package? If I haven’t gotten it by now should I call their office?

Thanks in advance.

I’m getting nervous as the first week of April comes to an end and we still haven’t heard anything form USC financial aid. USConnect still says “access denied” “Your financial aid information is currently unavailable because your award has not yet been determined.” I know they are busy and I don’t want to be a pest, but… Should we email? Call?

We can really only afford to have son visit one out of state school. We have heard from all the others.

Whoo Hoo!! His award is up and it looks very doable!!!

Thank you USC!!!

Comparable to our state flagship!!!

Congrats! Great news :)

Hi
I am USC trustee, and I finally saw my awards today.
I received no grants and my family EFC was like 13k…
It was kinda frustrating because our family was sure that pell and cal grants might cover some expenses…
In this case, UCLA for me will be cheaper because we only pay 3.5k every year, and money is a great issue for our family. (We earn about 70k, but my parents pay a lot of money in Korea for my sisters’ private educations… I don’t want to be an obstacle for their education.) Does this happen to everyone? Can’t trustee scholar receive any more money other than covering tuition fee? USC is my first choice and I really want to attend there…

Also, I’ve been named Research Scholar for Viterbi too (it says I can earn up to 3000 dollar). Where does this money belong to??

Did you qualify for Pell and Cal Grant at other schools, and if so do they NOT appear on your financial aid for USC?

Also, for how much Pell grant did your SAR from FAFSA say you qualified?

tomathist, I can see from your past posts that your parents live and work in Korea and do not file US taxes - have you checked with the financial aid office to be sure you have submitted everything they have asked for to verify your family’s income? Tax returns are required of US taxpayers, and other documentation is required if you are unable to submit tax return copies - the requirement for that income documentation does not disappear if your parents do not file US taxes. That could be the reason you see only merit aid in your award.

It says up to 1300… And Cal Grant was about 9k…
