If I rush during the spring, that means I can’t live in a house until my junior year right?

I’m pretty sure you can live starting Sophomore year.

just to make sure,

ATO = Alpha Tau Omega, right ?

and

TKE = Tau Kappa Epsilon ?? :)

What about Trojan Knights(TK)… I know they arent really a fraternity, but can you join both a fraternity and TK? And how is that ? Hard ? Do they throw parties/have a house ?

The first post sums it up pretty well. Im in one of those top 4 frats she refers too. Only correction id make is Lambda Chi is a bunch of kooks. There house only has a half court bball court in the front yard… lame. Sig Chi has a full court vball court and half court bball. And Someone said sig chi is not all cali kids??? I remember like 2 years ago, there pledge class of 30 kids… every single one of them was from cali… every single one. sae is the most hilarious. They have a full court bball court and a tiny vball court in the front yard that is pretty tight.
Heres the order
sae/ sig chi tied for number 1
then it just goes down hill from their

Is there a certain fraternity that is known for being more academic, or are they all about the same?

Anyone recently admitted to USC and considering joining greek life, or hoping to be admitted to USC, should completely disregard this fraternity break-down. Not only should you join a house based off of how you interact with the guys during rush, but the information here gives an inaccurate description of the house stereotype, which has since changed completely. I had rushed this fall semester, but did not join a particular house. I felt that I needed a more in depth look into each house than solely rush so I put off making a decision until I had partied with a lot of the houses, talked to girls in sororities, and made friends with guys in each of the houses.

While the term “top-house” is very subjective, I felt that there was and is a definitive hierarchy I noticed when rushing and partying with bigger houses. Smaller houses still party and everything but aren’t as popularly acclaimed as these fraternity houses:

1) Phi Kappa Psi (Phi Psi): Originally screwed for drugs but got off of social probation this year. They had a great turn out for rush, girls really like them, great registered parties. I’m ranking them as number one because from my perspective, they had an amazing semester. Hazing: Fairly hard, but not that bad from what i’ve heard. Absolutely no gay hazing techniques.

2) Sigma Chi (Sigma Chi): Reputable as a top house. Sigma Chi is adored by girls as well. They’re really involved in the school and their philanthropies. They do have a “Cali/surfer” image but that kind of fell off this year with their rush turn out. I have them below Phi Psi because their ranking is only due to their consistent reputation among girls as being a “fun” house. Their registered this year was over-hyped and didn’t turn out that great, but their other parties were pretty good. Girls were not too pleased with the looks of their pledge class. Hazing: Joke, but I have heard they do some “question your sexuality” things described by the original post.

3) Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE): Ranked below Phi Psi and Sigma Chi because they are coming back from a hazing incident. I’m not sure how hard this house hazes, but they were denied the ability to have a pledge class this semester because a pledge last semester had to go to the hospital for liver failure. They do project their Republican image but I doubt they’re actually racist considering my good (black) friend is in their house. Girls like them, kind of. Their parties were pretty tame.

Lambda Chi Alpha (Lambda Chi): Ranked below Phi Psi, Sigma Chi, and SAE because they were on social probation this semester. I’m not sure why, but I believe it was for a sexual assault incident. Lambda Chi got a fairly good turn out for rush. Girls like them. Not very “brotherly” in that they don’t haze or do anything very “fratty” (lol). It’s hard to determine Lambda Chi’s reputation form my perspective because while I’ve heard from girls and others that it is a good house, they’re lack of social this semester harmed their image.

Top 3-4 has not really changed besides the addition of Phi Psi coming off of 3 year social probation. Besides these rankings I felt that other houses were all pretty similar in girls’ perspective of them, parties, and pledge class. Hopefully my break-down only gives you an idea of what to expect and does not greatly influence your decision. Go to rush and find out for yourself!

gawd…what a stereotype filled blitz this thread was/is.

what about Omega Psi Phi Alpha Phi Alpha or Kappa alpha psi??

As a current student ive seen a bit of the scene and it looks as though some of the old stereotypes are changing… some frats that i think people should pay more attention to:

-Tke: they have a sick ass new house. their halloween party is one of the most famous parties at SC. people are talking about it, saying that its a top frat. the guys dont seem to be so douchy

-Sigma Chi: To the ongoing debate about which is the top house, this is it. better than Lamda Chi. i was recently at a bunch of prerush parties, and theirs was definitely the best… better than SAE… full of hot girls, and awesome music.

-Sigma Alpha Mu (sammy): these guys don’t have such a strong rep yet, but it looks like their on the rise and might be an important frat in the coming years. their fall pledge class was the biggest on the row. its a jewish frat but they seem to have a pretty mixed group of guys, and they throw some surprisingly good parties like their Warhol paint party.

AT USC Whcih are the top Frats? Which Frats haze easy which haze hard? How do these frats haze?

Any info on the rep of ZBT ?
