Would you say a graduate student attend USC experiences the same thing an undergrad does? such as tailgating, football games, and school spirit?

If you want to, you can. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to. The same holds true for UGs, too! (Believe it or not, some people want nothing to do with the football games and whatnot.)

The only difference between UG/Grad at USC would be the coursework (obviously) and the absence of the “Greek” socialization scene. (Don’t see too many grad students at frat parties!)

Thanks for the advice!

Any more you can give out about graduate students? Are they incorporated in the student body - encouraged to participate as UGs are? I guess it depends on the kind of person but I would like to continue my college experience in graduate schools (maybe minus the Frat parties).

I’m not sure, as I’m just going back to USC for grad school myself. Again, I am sure it really depends on the student. Some grad students are older and have spouses and children, so they might not be as motivated to integrate themselves into the student body, while some students moving to LA for the first time might want to join clubs to meet fellow students.

But, I do know that student orgs that aren’t limited to UGs only (ie: Undergraduate Student Government) are totally accepting and willing to welcome graduate students. Both of the student orgs I participated in as an UG at USC had several graduate students in staff positions, leadership positions, etc.

I got my graduate degree at USC while working full-time, so I was only on campus a few hours a week for classes. Therefore, I didn’t get that wrapped up in campus activities like clubs or football games. Most of my classmates were in the same situation, so we didn’t go out and get drunk together the way we might have if we were undergraduates.

That said, there’s no reason you can’t get involved with school spirit, clubs, football games, etc., as a grad student. Especially if you’re a full-time student and live on or near campus.
