During whole high school career, I have never gotten a grade below an A. I spent the first two years of high school at a magnet arts school and spent junior year at the Interlochen Arts Academy.

My first semester at Interlochen, I got all As and kept my 4.0. However, I got three A minuses second semester.

Will this affect my chances of getting into USC or UCLA with much scholarship money? My SAT score is a 2150 and I have lots of extracurriculars and volunteer work throughout my high school career. I REALLY want to go to USC for theatre, but I won't be able to go unless I get at least 70% of tuition via scholarship or grants.

This is the son of mets1962 and I graduated from Interlochen in 2012 and I’m entering my sophomore year at USC in the BFA program. Don’t over think this stuff. Auditions are very subjective and while grades help you get in USC makes many exceptions for specialized programs like acting, film, and the Lane Kiffen school of football arts. Substantial need is necessary for financial aide but there is also the presidential scholars program which you can look up. Even with top notch grades you may not get in and after your audition you may decide you don’t even want to go. If you want to ask me more questions you can try to discover my identity. It won’t be difficult. Ask Gulsh.

I believe that they treat the A- as an A, so the GPA they will use will stay the same. Don’t worry about it, and keep doing your thing.

I would cover your bases and have good alternatives and not count on a scholarship, particularly that amount. Over-committing to one school emotionally before you know if you will get in is setting yourself up for disappointment. Not to be discouraging, but hate to see kids heartbroken when they invest too much in one school. Invest time in finding another “A” choice just incase.
