Where do I get one if I apply regularly (not online)?

On the top of Couselor or Teacher Report, there is a box that says" Attach bar code label here, if available, or write your USC ID number here."

Do I need to get an USC ID number and put it in there?

it should be on anything that USC has sent you in the mail... if you haven't got anything in the mail from them, barcodes should come if you requested a paper application, if not call up the admissions office and ask them. I'm pretty sure you can also write your SSN if you don't know your USCID

Your USC ID is issued if you submit the Part I application, so if you haven't done that you won't have it yet. You can use your SSN instead. Once you submit the Part II application, you will get the USC ID and can use that number for any outstanding letters of rec or other materials, if any, that still need to be submitted. The SSN will also work.

last year my son didn't do part I, so he emailed them and his USC id was emailed to him, the bar codes came very late (we're from Canada) and was useless to us.
