USC Junior Transfer - Housing question

Hi - I will be transferring to USC this Fall as a Junior, majoring in communications. I don't know much about housing for USC at all, and was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions/advice.

I will be applying for USC housing, though I realize that the chances of getting housing as a transfer student this late are pretty slim. Nevertheless, what housing preferences would one recommend? And also, what non-USC housing would one recommend?

My requirements are:
-Close or on campus (5-10 minute walk), and/or close to easy transportation
-Preferably an apartment as opposed to halls/suites
-Reasonably priced
-Furnished
-More popular for upperclassmen as opposed to freshmen/sophomores. Would like a sense of community or ability to meet new people - especially since I won't know anyone going in!!
-No required meal plan
-Gym, wi-fi, etc. (would be nice!)

I guess that's it for now. Honestly I don't really know what I'm getting into so any advice would be helpful... also, how would one go about looking for roommates? (Unfortunately I don't personally know anyone transferring to USC this Fall. ): )

Thanks!

Oh also, would one recommend taking a car down? I’d prefer not to have a car and deal with traffic/parking issues, but is it crazy not to have one in downtown LA?

Check the Facebook pages for your class at USC and the USC Parents Facebook page (I think someone on the Parents page has a son looking for someone to take over a lease).

You don’t really need a car. D takes hers, but mostly uses the metro in LA, she uses the car to come home.

Thanks, I’ll definitely do that. I’m glad I won’t need to bring a car, it seems like a hassle.

If anyone needs a roommate, let me know!

If you’re interested I am looking for someone to take over my lease at Lorenzo. It’s a brand new building about a 10 min walk to campus but there is a shuttle that takes you right to campus as well. Apartment is on the top floor, its a bed space in a 2BR, you can still choose your roommates. $940 all utilities included. 3 story gym, 4 pools, movie theater…everything you could imagine. If you take over my lease I will cover the security deposit and give you $500 cash. Let me know if you’re interested.

Hey I’m looking for a room mate! I’m also transferring this semester!
@uscTrojan 13 hey can you pm me with the details of the lease!

2pisquare…I don’t have enough posts to pm you haha…send me an email and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have… balba@usc.edu

As to the original thread: I transferred in as a junior as well. I lived at Gateway both years…it was fine but now it’s overpriced to be honest. As for advice I would say get involved early…I wish I had done more earlier on but USC is a great time either way and gave me great post grad options, I had two offers when I graduated thanks to sc. Let me know if you have any other questions and congrats on getting in! As for housing recs I would of course recommend that you take my lease! I do wish I could stay because its a really great place but my plans have changed. Let me know if you’re interested
