USC National Merit Finalist Scholarship

I am a National Merit Finalist, and USC is supposed to give a half scholarship to all NMF. I received my acceptance letter today, but it did not mention the scholarship anywhere. Is this a problem, or is the scholarship just implied?

Do you have USC listed as your first choice with NMSC?

Yes, I do have it as my first choice.

I think you need to call them - they didn’t give a date on their website for this year, but last year it said recipients of the scholarship would be notified “by April 1st”.

Ok, thank you for your help.

wondering if any received notification from USC for NMSF?

I don’t think USC awards any NMSF. Only NMF who designate USC as 1st choice school in NMSC by May 1, will be awarded half-tuition if admitted.

Sorry, I meant when NMF will receive notice from USC about the scholarships to help them make the final decision.

When our S attended USC in 2006, all the NMFs who attended got a Presidential award of 50% renewal tuition for up to 4 years, as well as a NMF award of about $1K/semester or so, also renewable. You just had to be admitted to USC and indicate they were your 1st choice before May 1. Some schools/colleges gave additional merit awards.

Thanks HImom,
S did qualify and designated USC as first choice. Wondering when will the official information come, letter or shown-up-in-USC Financial Link. So it becomes official, and decision can be made.

We did talk with the person designated his USC “admissions counselor” based on our geographic location. I can’t remember whether it was she or if she referred us to someone else who was able to get us the official WRITTEN merit award offer. We also talked about and showed them an offer from another U that S had been considering and they increased his merit award slightly.

He was very happy at USC, and D joined him there as a transfer.

Thanks HImom,
So it seems like we need to wait for USC’s notice and hopefully it comes before late April when decision is needed.

Would suggest you give them a call now and ask who can send you the written offer so you can consider it when making final choice.

I know I am two years late. but I recently got into USC. If, by April 30, I put USC as my 1st choice for my NMF page, do I get half tuition? THakn you
