i dont know if anyone had started this thread.. but then im admitted as a psychology major for both schools. which one should i go? i actually like USC better, but then some people say the psychology program at UCSD is better.. any ideas?

UCSD is better for psycology, sciences, and engineering. If you plan to do business then USC would own UCSD. If you are willing to pay the higher tuition and want to go to USC since you like the school better then go. Otherwise, UCSD would be the better choice.

^ thanks.

but erm. i forgot to includ coz im internations. i pay almost the same tuition for both schools anyway…

UCSD has a reputation for being boring, while USC is known for school spirit.
UCSD uses a point system that gives credit for things beyond a students control, (first gen college, low performing school, size & income of family, overcoming hardship, etc.) and lets in applicants with lower academic scores over more academically qualified applicants.
The UC’s are impacted in terms of number of students. The privates are a better option for a quality education, especially in light of the budget crisis.
USC students become part of the Trojan family.
Happiness quotient- USC wins.

Ranking wise UCSD has a much higher ranking than USC for both

I think it depends on what you plan on doing with your degree. Private practice, clinical research etc…
I majored in Psychology at USC, and really enjoyed it there but I pursued a business career instead so I can’t give you any guidance on the benefits of a USC Psych Degree.

If you are interested in the field, I’m sure you are aware that you will want to pursue a masters degree or preferably a Phd. So I would target the graduate school you are interested in attending and chose the best undergrade program that gives you the best opportunity for entry into the grad school of your choice.
