USC or WashU

I'm a prospective biomedical engineering major accepted to both schools, with costs being the same for both. I plan to go to law school to pursue a career in patent law. I would probably be able to get a higher GPA at USC, but it's hard to turn down the relative "prestige" of WashU. Advice?

USC’s “prestige” may be higher than Wash U, if that’s what you’re interested in - it depends on where and for what fields.
But a better way for you to choose really should be “fit”: weather, intellectual atmosphere, relative place of sports (spectator, intramurals), internship opportunities, Greek life, study abroad programs (where/how long/how expensive/ for your major?)…

I think both are great schools, but believe the higher gpa at USC would benefit you later when applying to a law school. Frankly both are great opportunities. California would definitely have the nicer weather (another snow storm hitting St. Louis tonight). Which is closer for home, if that matters?

Which school would be better for BME? I’ve heard great things about WashU’s program, but also that it’s extremely difficult/competitive.

BME does seem to be one of WashU’s stand-out fields (if the USNWR rankings are to be believed).
