Dr. Andrew Sorensen is retiring. Trustees select Dallas firm to help find next president. Therefore, USC is searching for new president. I have heard that Dr. Sorensen is very well respected. Should this be of concern?

As far as we know he is not retiring to take another presidential position. He intends to retire, stay in the Columbia area and teach. While I wouldn't categorize him as elderly, he isn't "young" either.
He's been a great president and has changed the outlook of the University I think, from regional to national. I wouldn't worry about who they would be bringing in after him. He's also agreed to stay on until another President is in place.
My family has been through another switch in presidency when our older D was an undergraduate (at Arizona State U).They also were looking for a more national level rather than regional level executive and they were very successful in their search. Nowadays, more than ever before, Presidents need to be "rainmakers" as in having the ability to raise money.
