Good luck everyone!!!
Congratulations, that’s great news @klsknsk !
If you don’t mind sharing, which scholarship did he receive?
@klsknsk Congrats!!! How was he notified? In his portal? Via email??
I have no idea what the value of the SCA scholarships are, would love to know if there are different ones and ranges to put in the ol’ data bank.
Didn’t get one but other students said it was the Cohen scholarship and was about $20k. Lucas is not out yet
@romns116 Cohen, but I thought he applied only for Lucas because we didn’t think he’d qualify financially for Cohen. I guess because he didn’t get any FA??
@lakergirl6232 email. But really strange, he received 2 emails with different amounts. We’re hoping that means he got 2 and we can add together? Either way it’s a huge relief!
Just out of curiosity - what things have other admitted students gotten in the mail from SCA? I’d heard that some students got folders (SCA specific, not the big red acceptance packages) w/ lots of info in them, and I was kind of hoping that I’d get that too before I made my decision (I’m not committed yet) so I could compare SCA’s program to other schools’. Is this stuff that just goes out to committed students? All that I’ve gotten is an acceptance letter in a small envelope.
Son committed 1-2 weeks ago. I don’t think he’s received a single piece of mail from SCA. However, he’s a Spring admit.
@CADREAMIN if you PM me I can give you some info
Just an FYI for those still trying to decide on whether to commit to SCA or not…
There is a wealth of info on the website: https://cinema.usc.edu/ including various videos, program descriptions, alumni news, etc.
The USC Catlogue is also a great resource for finding anything and everything, including descriptions related to majors or minors + required courses, etc: http://catalogue.usc.edu/
And for SCA specifically, there are many great videos on youtube.com as well. I especially like these two…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYqhsmZFZRg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxKqMJxw6vc
… But there are over 300 in total on youtube related to SCA.
^couldnt agree more.
In the off chance someone still undecided on SCA, here’s another video (thanks @BrianP9999)
My D committed on Saturday during admitted students day. Thankfully, she ended up receiving financial aid from USC after an appeal. Meanwhile, she seriously considered Chapman and spent 2 days there last week.
@drumminggeek87 The folder my daughter received during admitted students day included a list of SCA clubs, sample first year classes, list of possible minors in SCA, and a list of jobs held by recent and less recent graduates. What other school are you considering?
For those students who have committed to SCA, I highly recommend that they join the SCA Network https://cinema.usc.edu/development_new/scanetwork.cfm It’s only $25/year, but it also opens many new doors for you… tons of emails inviting you to premieres, special events, campus visits by filmmakers & celebrities, etc. And in reality, it is also open to those without an SCA major. Many join to gain access to all the email invites, etc.
Los Angeles Times article… SCA’s 90th Anniversary
https://www.president.usc.edu/files/2019/04/LAT-on-USC-Cinema-90th-anniversary.pdf
^^^ Sadly, John Singleton just left yesterday.
^^^ Sad indeed.
@CelestialDreams How are things going with your appeal? I hope you are able to go to USC.
Asking the same question here from the main thread, just in case…
Has anyone attended the SCA departmental reception during welcome week? I’d love to know if it’s worth staying for.
hello can I ask to perhaps see anyone who was accepted is project question 1 and 2 essays which were required for the slide room application. Anything would be great thanks for a better perspective.
