***USC School of Cinematic Arts (Class of 2021 Discussion/Results)***

According to another thread, they started arriving (white boxes) via the US Mail today in SoCal and areas close to L.A. They were all mailed out yesterday, The rest of the U.S. should receive them tomorrow or Thursday. And then everyone’s portals will likely update overnight between Thurs and Friday. At least that is the consensus opinion.

Good luck to all SCA applicants… including my daughter. Here’s hoping…

No “white box” delivered to us. Here’s hoping that someone here applying to SCA gets one.

We of course knew that admission to SCA alone is a long-shot for anyone - as so much of it is creative subjectivity. And mainly… they just accept so very few. Their admit rate is insanely competitive. Admission to SCA tied in with this Merit phase was taking it much further. So we knew that & expected this outcome in all reality.

The hope continues though through normal RD. Now if she gets in to USC but not SCA… well then the real soul searching will have to begin. I guess it would depend on her other admits. Her two so far would not sway her away from USC. Anyhow, time will tell…

Back to the positives… congrats to those actually getting the boxes today… and tomorrow…

I just hope to hear that a few are also tied to SCA.

Same here, really hoping for the RD round although it’s a long shot for everyone as you said

I am east coast…and not even thinking about the white box! Hoping for RD though.

Do we know of any SCA applicants who received a white box yet?

I just got in (white box)! I’m a SCA cinema/media studies major and a pres scholarship finalist!

Congrats, @jezreader Finally someone from SCA…

@jezreader Congratulations on your acceptance, and good luck with your scholarship weekend! We were hoping for a white box but it didn’t arrive. May I ask what your stats were? Are you from CA or out of state? My S is applying to film production so I guess we now wait until the end of March with everyone else.

Does anyone know how many people applied for the various majors this year? I know acceptance into any is a long shot…but just wondering…

@midwest98 I’m from Los Angeles, so obviously USC is very close to home. In terms of stats, my ACT score is a 33 and my weighted GPA is a 4.51 (3.91 UW). I definitely think it was my supplementary materials for SCA that got me in, though — I’m really proud of the essays I sent them for the film studies major. Good luck to your family and everyone else!

@jezreader CONGRATS!!!

I’m hoping to apply to SCA for Film & Television Production in a few years. In the meantime, good luck to you all!! I’ll have my fingers crossed for you guys!!

Has anyone gotten into the film and television production program?

Has anybody gotten an interview request from an SCA professor?

Yes, there were some honors admits to production. I think five or six.

@s0meUSCkid95 How do you know how many people were already admitted? Thanks!

@piksla I work in an office on campus that has access to this information.

Thanks @s0meUSCkid95 do you know how many more spots are available for the production program?

@yungalien

It varies from year to year, but I know that last year, about 70 freshmen were accepted to production. So if nothing changes this year, there are probably around 60-65 admission spaces left in production.

@yungalien

I am curious as well to see what insights @s0meUSCkid95 may have to share on this topic. An insider’s perspective is always welcomed.

The #s that I have heard before are a goal of 75 for Cinema and Media Studies, 50 for production, 12 for IMGD, 15 for Screenwriting and 24 for animation. If 5 or 6 applicants have already been admitted for production via the merit invitation round in January, that would leave around 45 spots available. Of course, USC’s traditional yield rate university-wide is only 34%. So SCA may have to admit as many as 150 or so for production to end up with 50 enrolled. If my daughter is one of those admitted for production, she is 100% committed to attending… so it is actually hard to imagine that SCA’s yield rate could be that low. But I have never seen the yield rates broken down by Schools, like for SCA, vs USC overall.
