USC Spring or Villanova

hi guys!
So, I recently got into USC through appeal for the spring term. And I can't decide whether I want to stick with Villanova or withdraw my enrollment.
USC has always been my dream school but I don't know if I can say that now. I live in NJ and I don't know if I can travel 3000 miles away from friends and family. Also, I don't know if it's worth it to wait four months. I'm not exactly the most social person so I feel like Spring admit is gonna be more of a challenge for me.
In my opinion, I think it's clear that USC has more prestige and is better in academics than Villanova is. Also, being a Trojan is for life. USC definitely has all I want in a school (campus, activities, diversity, social life) and I know if I got in for the Fall I would definitely go, but I didn't.
Financially wise, USC is going to cost about $20,000 more after I graduate. Everyone I know is saying that that amount is not much, but I don't really know much about student debt.
Honestly, all the things I hear about spring admission are positive, but does anyone have any negative comments?

anyway, any help is much appreciated :)

Well, as far as distance goes I like it. You’ll skype/text/phone your close friends and you realize who you really need to stay in contact with and who you don’t. I like the independence of being away and that I was required to try new things and take responsibility. You miss people of course but distance is relative and not right next to you is not right next to you whether it’s 20 miles or 20,000.

I think overall, you’ll be fine. You have to be a hermit to not make any friends. Just join a club. It sounds like SC is where you want to be and you shouldn’t let a few months stop you from going to your dream school.

Are you kidding me? Okay, let me share a personal experience. I’m from Boston and went to USC undergrad. Years ago, in the 1990s, I had a colleague from Philly who went to Nova, its nickname. One night he confessed to me how much he regretted not having gone to a college with a brand name like USC. He also confessed he wish he had gone to USC. Please,I implore you, do not make the same mistake! Don’t wake up 20 years from now and regret this. Go to USC! Fight On!

D1 just graduated from USC. D2 is a sophomore at Villanova. Go to USC. Fight on!

Our D was a spring transfer admit to USC. She has been very happy there and had no trouble making friends. In some ways, it’s easier to make friends in the spring, as it’s not quite so overwhelming–check with USC–they may OK you taking some courses at a CC where you live & accepting those credits so you will still be able to graduate with your peers as well. If you do take some courses now, you’ll get adjusted to setting your own schedule before you move all those 1000s of miles away. Our kids both move 2500 miles from our home to attend USC and both were very happy there.

I’m not sure what you mean that USC will cost you $20K MORE–what exactly is the total amount you plan to borrow to attend USC and Villanova? The total net amount, including additional interest while you’re attending school is what is important. Especially in these uncertain economic times and if you MAY attend grad school or get an undergrad major that will require you to get a masters of PhD (which is most undergrad majors), you don’t want to incur too much debt as an undergrad. Huge debt GREATLY reduces your options going forward.

In four years when you march in the procession for commencement you will not be thinking about entering SC a bit later than others in your class.

Almost half the undergraduate students at SC are from outside the state of California.

Also, sadly, tuition, rent and other expenses at USC and most other Us keep going up so the amount that is owed after earning the degree also rises. Just one more thing to keep in mind so you and your family realize what they’re getting into. Sadly, it also sometimes takes longer than 4 years to get a degree (sometimes shorter, but especially if the major changes, it can take more time).

Your social life is what you make of it - I am friends with spring admits that got really involved as soon as they got on campus, and they’re just as integrated in our circle of friends as any fall admit.

That said, as a fellow east coaster… USC over nova.

Fyi, 48 percent of USC frosh are in state, 52 percent are out of state.
