Does anyone have any experience with USC? I am a rising sophomore, and I'm very interested in USC's Popular Music or Vocal Performance majors. I am also homeschooled, so I'm a bit more flexible in my time. I'm looking for something to replace my just-discontinued singing lessons, so what should I do for that?

Since you are pre-college I would recommend going to the Colburn school of Performing Arts…they have fabulous voice coaches and it will prepare you for schools like USC. Good luck!

^Thank you! Is it an official “school”, or is it a place you can take weekly lessons at?

I used to take my voice lessons at a Music and Arts store. It was good for what I needed then, and she introduced me to singing opera (Caro Mio Ben, Per la a gloria), but she’s moving.

Can’t help you with your teacher question, but the following posters have insight on Thornton’s Popular Music program - raddad (son), smithanan (daughter), 27dreams (incoming freshman) and myself (son), all with different focuses. My son is not a singer, so I can probably help the least.

Here are a few threads with discussion about the program (I’m sure there are more):

There are also many videos on youtube from the program, and there was recently an article in USA Today (I think it was USA Today) you could search for.
