I'm currently entering senior year in high school and I am looking into some universities that have good music programs... and in particular I'm looking for some contemporary music programs (popular music) also with the availability to take courses about music industry... is USC Thornton's program good? I've been looking into it and it looks great but I would just like some opinions from people who know the pros and cons of the school.

Son is a popular music perfromance major and he loves it and I have been impressed with the program. I have had limited exposure to music industry program but was also very favorably impressed with what I saw. I think both would be ranked among the top in the country. Both also require good grades and the musical skills to be accepted, so if you are interested make sure you are putting yourself in the best position to be accepted. jazz/shreddermom and smithanan also have kids in the program. If you search for my or their posts, you can get alot more detail about our kids experiences in the program.

Cleith,
The students must be prepared academically and for a competitive audition. Please check out videos on YouTube from the program. I think you will find the talent is at a high level.

Steve Miller and others are heavily involved with the students. There is time spent on preparing participatnts about recording, agents, copyrights and other aspects of the business.

Do read radad’s and other posts from the parents regarding the program. They will give you insights about training, premier faculty and music collaboraton.
