USC Transfer Help - Credits

Hi I need a little help with figuring out my credits before I transfer (into sophomore year at USC).

I'm at UCSC right now and I'm trying to get into Viterbi. USC has Calculus I and II, but my school only has two quarters "Calculus"; its called 19A and 19B. Then we have Honors Calc and Linear Algebra. Do my Calculus classes count as 4 units or 8 for USC? I was advised to take at least up to Calculus II for my major but..a little confused here hahahaha.

Also, I am planning to take community college classes in the Summer and I want to transfer previous credits (Orange Coast College, Irvine Valley College, Golden West College). I understand at USC they have a semester schedule and UCSC has a quarter system, so I have to convert the units. Is this the same at these community colleges?

Please help! I really want to make sure I transfer with 30+ units to USC.

Nice screen name, makes me think of…oh I don’t know…Rhinotillexomania? I’m a current USC student in the college (philosophy major…don’t ask why or how) who transferred in from Orange Coast College. Ironically, this is my second semester here and I’m looking to transfer out… a long but continuing story…anyhow…I think I may be able to lend you some advice. Your calculus classes should transfer in just fine and fulfill the Math 125/126 requirements here, that would be 8 units in total. So long as your Calc course isn’t a business related one (i.e. Calculus for business and social science), you should be fine as these versions will probably not count towards most any major in Viterbi, or for the Math major at that. As for unit conversion from a quarter to semester system, I don’t think time variance is as much a concern as the substance and rigor of the class. Regarding community colleges, I know none in California that are on the quarter system so there’s not much of an issue there. In any case, you should double check all this in the USC course catalogue here:

and peruse USC’s articulation agreements with Cal CC’s here.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you in your academic endeavors.

Hii lotm30923 thanks for answering my question, yeah my username is PizzaEggroll because I’m chinese and italian.

So if I took a class at community college that is 4 units, it would be 4 units at USC, right? Just asking to make sure.

In the context of the current discussion, yes.
