Hi, well I was accepted to a few schools but I’ve narrowed down my choices to USC (Dornsife), Johns Hopkins, and Barnard. I want to study creative writing (english) and most likely double major in film.
USC gave me half a scholarship (but its much farther than the other schools so travel expenses might be more). They also have a really good film/english program + school spirit + alumni network.
Barnard is famous for being a strong source of powerhouse female writers. The location in nyc as well as the ability to take any classes in both Barnard and Columbia is really appealing (not sure about the only girls part though).
John Hopkins has a strong program in English and has the Writing Seminars major (why I applied in the first place). I’ve never been to Baltimore though and I’m not sure if it’s a good city to spend four years in (I’ve heard the neighborhood around the school is pretty bad).
What are your opinions? Particularily which one is better for my interests?i I love then all but they’re just all different and I’m not sure what to do
If I had to make this decision with these majors in mind, I’d cross Johns Hopkins off the list right off the bat. For the majors you’ve expressed interest in, especially film, USC and Barnard would suit you much better than Johns Hopkins could.
That being said, I’m having a hard time telling you to pick one school over the other when it comes to USC vs. Barnard. Both are in great locations for film and both have great writing programs. I might personally pick Barnard since I’m not thrilled with USC’s reputation as a party haven, but given your scholarship the decision becomes more difficult. I’m going to go ahead and say Barnard, but USC is a fine, fine choice as well.
