USC vs CMU vs DUKE, guys help me out. I'm stucked

wondering which should I go......I majored in biomedical engineering(medical device emphasis). So basically I took courses that EECS students took. I am a little interested in making medical devices, however, my coding ability is almost zero.c++ java......Guys, ?I think BME is a awkward major. BME students have to learn a lot of interdisplinary subjects, but never go deep.I'm afraid that all the work opportunities are going to be shared with students majoring in EE or CS. I applied several univerisities. only usc cmu duke gave me the admission. Cuz these three schools each has its own feature, I am having a hard time deciding which to go. listed below are some basic informations of these universities. Guys, please give me some advice and help me to find the right college that could help me find a good job after graduation.

advice~~~~!!

still??????

no advice??

I’m an engineering student at USC and love it here. It seems like you were wondering about the alumni network, and it is extremely strong. I have interacted with several engineering alumni and toured the companies they work at to learn about what engineers do in the real world. This, plus having internships, has really allowed me to figure out which industry I want to work in after graduation.

The biomedical engineering program is strong and gaining popularity. The only way you might share job competition with EE or CS major is if you are BME with the electrical emphasis. If you haven’t learned about the different emphases yet, check out [USC Department of Biomedical Engineering: Undergraduate Programs](Undergraduate Programs - USC Viterbi | Department of Biomedical Engineering). The emphases in BME are listed on the left under Academics.

Also, I encourage you to check out [USC - Viterbi School of Engineering - Viterbi Student Ambassadors](http://viterbi.usc.edu/vsa/) to see what current USC engineering students are up to! Hope this helps!

thanks a lot buddy~I had a sister majoring in BME Ms in the USC. She said by now, 90% of internetional students in this major during their second year in the USC find it hard to find a job or even a no-pay internship.Only one in her class(first year Ms)found an internship. I think this might be due to the poor economic condition. I found the USC is very welcoming to international student especially who are from China and India. And I even attended one of their welcome reception in Beijing. It is really welcoming and attractive. I almost decided to go to the USC due to the fine weather in the LA and the strong alumni network after that. However, I took a second thought that other schools(CMU,DUKE)might share the same advantage. I consulted several person who studies at these three schools. Ironicly, the gals in the USC and DUKE told me that the alumni and the job serivce are strong in their schools, however they did not play an important role while they were trying to find a job. they claimed that the alumnis even did not know you, so it is naive to believe that they will be willing to offer an opportunity to a stranger. While the buddy in CMU said that the CMU also had a very strong alumni network. So I was a little confused and misled. I now have a kind of feeling that almost all the top 30 private schools have a strong job service and alumni network, however, they did not work all the time. It is the overall ability one possesses and the market condition that determine. Am I right?

come on ~~~guys

up !!!

upupupupup

I think you should go to Duke

The job opportunities as a BME major coming from Duke will be much, much greater than coming out of USC. Most Duke Engineers become investment bankers or management consultants anyway so you will face much less competition in the process for an internship with the top medical device manufacturing companies like Medtronic, Stryker and Baxter.

Trust me, go to Duke or you may end up regretting up it in this case.
