I will most likely apply to both schools, but i’m not sure if I should apply to one ed!
I want a school with good greek life and school spirit and a social scene around the sports, which I think I could find at both. I was looking at UNC chapel hill oos (From Albany NY) and I loved the school and social life and school spirit but I think I want to be in/near a big city. I also don’t know about going to a huge school where I won’t be able to set myself apart, but I don’t want something too small. I would love any input on either school! Thanks!
I can’t speak to USC, but I loved my time at Vanderbilt and in Nashville. I had never been to Nashville before and am not from the South or mid-South, but Nashville was definitely a positive about Vandy. It’s a great city and the school is outstanding. If a top football team is important to you, though, Vandy would probably not be the place. Playing in the SEC is rough going. Both are great schools but Vanderbilt offers a combination of great academics and happy students that is tough to beat.
Comparable schools, but really different evironments on several different levels.SC is in very large sprawling metropolis that is quite diverse–many would consider the surrounding areas to urban… Vandy is in a mid-size city in a fairly bucolic neighborhood. SC has also a pretty large Asian presence relative to Vandy.
Both have a sub population of affluent students, and the attendant student parking attest to the number of nice cars. SC has a bad rap in crime and in fact, many other named schools (e.g Harvard, Duke, etc) have higher crime rates. Vandy is very nice and top notch, but I wouldn’t consider diverse, not the school or the city. SC, has a bit more of a national reputation, but that is just my opinion and it’s a negligible point. I would say, consider where you want to end up post graduation, as both also have very solid professional and grad schools. No bad choices…
