I was wondering what we do during Welcome Week, other than move in/unpack/meet roommates. Is it similar to orientation and will our entire day be packed with activities? I know a schedule will be posted, but...I can't wait that long. :P

Nob,
The official schedule will be released on August 1, 2010. Nearly every organization on campus has some sort of activity/mixer/dinner. The university has events online so you will have the opportunity to select the ones that interest you after the schedule is completed.

These are just a few…

Ground Zero Coffeehouse–Improve with Second Nature & Commedus Interruptus; Aug 24-28
Asian Pacific Welcome–Aug. 23rd, half day
Fisher Gallery Exhibits–Starting Aug. 19th
Guided Tours of Leavey Library–Aug. 21 & 22
Black Alumni Association Welcome–Aug. 23rd
Campus Fair-TBA

It will be a long list…

theres a lot of workshops about adjusting to college and usc’s resources that you can go to. theres a concert on saturday night on mccarthy quad, last year it was cold war kids, as tall as lions, and the down down downs. sunday night theres a comedy show, last year it was the comedian who does the bon qui qui sketch on comedy centra, i forget her name. theres freshman microseminars you can sign up for that are on thursday and friday morning. you’ll have a mandatory floor meeting if you’re living in usc housing. also, if you’re on scholarship, theres a mandatory scholarship meeting in founders park about requirments and whats included with your scholarship. the lyon center (the gym) has an open house with info about intramural/club sports and what the lyon center offers. theres a “dive in movie” thing, where they show a movie on this huge projecter at mcdonalds swim stadium. the week ends the wednesday of the first week of class with an activity fair in alumni park where all the campus orgs have tables and you can get info about joining

Just be aware that most of the “mandatory” stuff really isn’t mandatory. Especially if you have a good excuse. I’ve never been to any welcome week events, because I’m busy all week practicing with the marching band. Never had any problems.

is welcome week just for freshman or for new transfers too?

Welcome week activities are for the most part for everyone, unless specifically denoted for freshmen.

Is there a welcome week for spring admits?

I thought it was only for entering students, so if return next fall as a sophomore, I have to attend welcome week as well, or can I arrive a day before classes start?

no you can just arrive the day before class starts

Here’s the Welcome Week brochure =]
http://sait.usc.edu/ca/images/wweek_brochure2010.pdf

ah it looks pretty sweet, I’m excited! :D

How’s traffic around this time? It starts on the 18th, but do I need to arrive on the 17th?

^ No you don’t need to arrive on the 17th; and if you do, you have to pay an extra $50 (or maybe 75?) to move in early. USC does a great job of handling traffic by dorm, just check your brochure to see what entrance you need to enter through. I arrived around lunch time, and it feels like everyone else does, too, but at least traffic wise, I did not have to wait at all to get into campus. The most hectic part is just moving all your stuff to the dorm room and then unpacking.

Sounds good. Thank you.

From my experience last year, not that many people were moving in mid-afternoon (when I moved in). I think most try to move in earlier, like in the morning, since you can choose which side of the bed you get and such :P. I got stuck with the side with the fridge/microwave = less space in an already not very spacious dorm room…

Dr. Nikias, SC’s new president, will be teaching one of the freshmen micro-seminars during Welcome Week.

haha I’m actually signed up for it… I’m pretty familiar with Antigone, so I figured it would be pretty cool.
