Hey- so I have heard a lot about how USC is nicknamed "University of Spoiled Children"- do any of you think that has any merit?

USC is one of the most economically diverse top private schools in the country and gives good to great financial aid. Part of the reason for the nickname has to do with the rivalry between UCLA and USC. For many years, USC was where the rich, UCLA rejects went (for decades, UCLA wasn’t a particularly competitive admit). Now it’s just where the UCLA rejects go ;)

When my mother was growing up in LA during the 40s and 50s, she said the common attitude was, “If you have grades, you go to UCLA. If you have money, you go to USC.”

These days, UCLA and USC are very similar academically, and USC’s admit rate is even less than UCLA’s, but old reputations die hard.

It’s not only UCLA that likes to refer to USC as the “University of Spoiled Children.” You hear that a lot from Stanford and Cal students, too. All four schools like to rip on each other.
