Usc

I'm going through the arduous process of trying to pick a college to go to and I would really like to know what the student life is like at USC (University of Southern California, not Carolina). What do students do on saturdays? (The things I mainly like to do in my spare time are: watch movies, concerts (anything but classical, please), plays, run, golf (an unnatural game involving unnaturally shaped sticks held in unnatural positions played in an unnatural environment :D ), windsurfing and volunteering at animal rescue shelters (animal rights ftw!!!). How many hours do they study per day/week? How difficult is it to be involved on campus?

They go to Pinkberry's in Westwood. :)

The Fall semester revolves around Football. Most students go to the games on Saturdays or watch them on TV for the awaygames. Gameday is ridiculous as people arrive at 5am to start the tailgaiting for a 5pm game.

Otherwise, there are lots of random things to do like concerts and other sporting events. There will also be lots of parties, the Greeks usually throw big ones on the Row and there are other house parties.

Students also go off campus for outings, the Beach, Skiing, shopping and a movie on the Westside, Dodger Games, concerts. The really nice thing about LA is there is never a shortage of things to do.

"They go to Pinkberry's in Westwood."

Uh, actually it's Diddy Reese if you're going to Westwood ;) You cannot beat their prices.

It is not difficult to be involved on campus. My son and his then girlfriend started a campaign against the war in Iraq, which resulted in a week-long series of events partly funded by the student government. He also took part in a comedy troop that also received student government funds. If you can't find an organization on campus that interests you, start one.

In the fall, weekends are focused on football. If that doesn't interest you there are trips to clubs, house parties, museums, on-campus theater, the beach, Disneyland, movies and lectures. You could, of course, study.

Thank you for all your replies! You've all been so helpful and you've definitely influenced my decision for the better.

You might have more luck with getting replies to your question at the USC-specific subforum:
