So how does this work, Does USC weed through all 51000 applicants and narrows it down to X applicants. Then USC throws those applicants over the wall to their various first choice schools. Those school have X slots and make choices. Those not chosen on that go-round are thrown over the wall again to their second choice school. And finally Those that are not picked up by their second choice get first class mail?

@RCLVRR I’m not so sure, but I think we are considered for our second choice. my second choice wasn’t marshall, but international relations so idk how that is going to work out. maybe we are considered for business? so confusing…i even almost forgot to the video interview at first LOL

@infinitely2014 lol thru the bocconi app i did not even get to list my second choice haha so I’m genuinely confused right now. oh the video interview was so stressful… i hated it!

As far as when to expect mail–we got Boston College decision in Seattle in 2 days regular USPS but it took 6 days for Orange County to Seattle regular mail. So you just never know! Hang in there.

@Gr8TrnRob1903 first major, second major, then they would offer you undecided, the last thing will be reject.

So what happened to people who registered for housing account?

Wait soo whatever major we are accepted to are we committed to that major? What if we change our minds and want to go into something different?

I think, IIRC, that they told us that the apps to Viterbi are first considered by the Viterbi adcom. If they reject the applicant, then the app goes over to the second-choice major. All rejects from Viterbi are (also?) automatically considered for Dornsife (undecided, I guess). My S put his #1 choice (in Viterbi) and “Undecided” as his second. I wonder if he’d put something else, if he would have had 3 chances? But if Viterbi said no, then I can’t imagine any other specialized school would have accepted him, since his strengths are all in math/scienc-y stuff, writing is his weak point, and he submitted no art portfolio.

But Viterbi might be a special case, because they even send their own reps around to do interviews, whereas everyone else gets interviewed (I think) by reps from the general university admissions office. At least in Honolulu, the only choices were “general” and “Viterbi” interviews.

And they do say that while the interviews are “optional,” they are also “evaluative” - not merely “informational” as with many schools. I think someone on here posted that the interview is only informational (i.e., providing information to the applicant), but when S signed up, he was specifically told that they were “evaluative.” And in his “Admission Documents Received” there is something entitled “Interview” so we are guessing that’s notes from the interviewer.

Holding out good thoughts for all CCers as we while away the hours…

@RCLVRR haha I guess we just have to wait… Hopefully it comes tomorrow !

@rundancelove - Then you change your major. Within the same school, in most cases it is VERY simple (though to go from SCA Critical Studies to SCA Writing would have some additional requirements, for example). To change to a major in another school, procedures may vary - some will be as easy as filling out a form and some will have application requirements such as portfolios, auditions, etc. College students change their majors ALL the time (I changed mine FIVE times as an undergraduate and twice as a graduate

@alamemom - Thanks, I thought it was a fairly easy process but hesitated for a moment when people started talking of being accepted by major or department.

Anyone know if it’s getting to northern cali tomorrow or friday?

@alamemom so if someone got admitted into say…Critical Studies, they do not have to do an application process to switch to Film & TV production?

I imagine it will be sort of like time zones. 1 day for mountain or pacific, 2 days for central, and 3 days for eastern.

Anyone have any idea if WA letters usually come the same day as the CA letters do? Or Friday like the majority of the rest of the country. Did anyone bother searching through last years thread to find out?

To those asking about delivery dates:
<a href=“Priority Mail Delivery Map | USPS”>https://www.usps.com/priority-mail/map/

Guys when you post your decisions tomorrow, if you know what your FA statuses were, please state them. I noticed that Scholarship Information message moved to old messages and new messages for admission status is cleared.

@scahopeful - Film & TV Production is one of the majors that requires internal transfers to submit an application and supplemental materials https://cinema.usc.edu/production/usctransferprocedures.cfm . (The one major I listed in my earlier post was just ONE example). As a rule of thumb, if the major is one of USC’s super-selective majors, you will need to go though an internal transfer process similar to applying as a freshman and it will continue to be super-selective even for internal transfers.

@cjcow56 annenbergggg! :D

@alamemom okay, thanks.

I always just assumed the internal application process was for students who went to USC but not admitted into SCA haha! For example, at Indiana University if you’re admitted into the Kelley School of Business you’re free to switch from Marketing to HR to Accounting to Finance, etc. (basically any other major offered under Kelley). But if you wanted to major in Art History then you would have to apply separately to the Herron School of Art and Design.

Thanks for the insight!
