Is USC considered a "party school"? I am concerned b/c I am a hard-core bookworm!

Is there pressure for joining Greek life?

So would living in a quieter, excluded place like Parkside be for me? I would be going to bio and english classes plus the gym a lot as well. And prolly the library if my room and lounge are noisy.

The "party school" reputation is outdated. While there is a definite amount of partying here, it's acceptable to be a bookworm as well. Also, many students do quite well with a "Work Hard, Play Hard" mentality. I don't think there is pressure to go Greek, though the organizations do a fair amount of recruiting. It is quite possible to have a vibrant social life outside of the Greek scene.

Parkside is definitely one of the more studious dorms, and may be appropriate for you. It isn't necessarily "excluded" because your suite will still have 7 other students. However, the building itself is somewhat remote. The gym is a bit of a walk, while the main library is about .7 miles away. The distance doesn't seem to both most students though.

USC is not a party school. Back about 15 years ago, the school was a different place, but it is now one of the nation's most distinguished schools home to students who prioritize academics. Yes, there are parties but no more than any other university. Those who want to go Greek usually do this, but most students have no intention.

As a current Parkside resident, I think you would like it here. This the newest and nicest of the residence halls on campus. Next year, our expansion-The Arts and Humanities Residential College-opens (that's where I'll be living), and it should be exceptional.

There are a lot of cultural/social/academic programs at Parkside, which happen on a regular basis, including weekly master's dinners. Faculty from the school live in the building and regularly invite speakers who discuss their research and other topics of interest. Nothing is more than a 10 minute walk from Parkside. The gym is about six minutes away.

I think, as with any with school, there are all SORTS of people.... colleges never choose just one type of person.
There are the partier goers, the book worms, and those with a good mix of each. It all depends on who you choose to hang out with and what your priorities are- you'll be fine =D
