USD Class of 2024

Portal is back and I am still C-RFR

Status is still C-RFR… have not given up hope.

App status is back up! Does anyone else on here got accepted and know they’re going to USD for sure? If so let me know!

Just to add my two cents about the school spirit conversation. Forgive me if I am stating the obvious at all.

I went to a school with tons of school spirit and it was fun but it wasn’t the be all and end all. My husband went to USD and he definitely loved college and had an overall better experience than I did. (We are both from the East Coast.)

I think due to social media, the colleges with the school spirit have become insanely popular. Many prospective students think having the full college experience must include painting your face with your school colors on home football game days (which I did at my school). While this is fun, it’s not the be all and end all.

If I had to do college over, I would have chosen a smaller school and the typical sports related school spirit component would not really be a factor either way. There are 6 home football games a year, a handful of hockey or basketball games…I personally think that a student’s everyday life (which includes many different variables!) is what matters the most.

From what I have heard about USD, the everyday life there is really special. Amazingly supportive student and academic community on an amazing campus near an amazing city. What else could you want?

Just my two cents.

@collegemomjam I really appreciate that. Would love any insight about USD!

@CMCHX4 we visited last fall and my son loved it. The people were really nice and proud of their school. Seems like academics are strong but not cut throat. Professors care. Great food. Obviously in a great location. Nothing not to like (except the cost of course but that’s the same for any private!).

Anyone know any benefits to the honors college? I got accepted about a week ago but I’m unsure of actual pros and cons of it.

My DD received her USD packet in the mail yesterday. She’s been awarded a Presidential merit scholarship at $18K/year and invited to apply to honors. Does anyone know if the honors program adds additional merit $?

Congrats to the DD of HappyFeetMAMA! That is great news on the Presidential merit scholarship!

@collegemomjam or anyone else How would you compare USD to another similarly ranked school with similar weather like UMiami that has all the sports and glitz and glam and spirit

Weather is more consistent in CA because Florida has many random unforeseen thunderstorms and is 80 typically. San Diego is closer to 70 and is a much drier climate. The big difference between the two is size. UMiami is a much larger school, about double the number of undergrads compared to USD, with much larger class sizes. USD offers much more personalized learning and a closer-knit community. UMiami also has a different academic schedule than USD. It is honestly kinda tough to compare the two since they have many differences but hopefully, this helps. @sunshuttle

Hopefully today…

Fingers crossed that today will be the day. Status still C-RFR

does anyone know what time today?

Aside from last Monday, which was around 11 am PST, it has been Monday evenings.

Just checked the website. Son was admitted today.

I am still praying for my son to be accepted! I just received a follow request on Instagram from “USD class of 2024”. Has anyone else received this? IF so, do you know if it’s actually USD? This got us excited, thinking he was admitted, but nothing has changed. Still complete-ready for review.

Just checked and I was admitted. I couldn’t find anything on honors or merit aid, which is very surprising. Will these be in the acceptance package or where should I see it on my portal?

33 ACT
5.2 Weighted GPA (out of 6)
Lots of ECs
President of Interact Club
Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish
Lots of Work Experience and Volunteering

I was admitted too. Financial aid will be received in the mail.

Status still says committee review but I do have an admitted tab.
