Useful Internet Stuff (not Princeton-related)

As you'll have friends and parents to keep in touch with but one phone per suite and questionable cell reception... may I recommend Skype (www.skype.com) -- free computer-to-computer calling over the internet. The voice quality is really clear, i.e. better than landline, even internationally. (My Skype name is the same as my CC name, FYI, and there's a nascent facebook group for the service, too.)

Also... if you want to keep your bookmarks accessible from any browser and you don't mind them being public, try http://del.icio.us -- yes, that's a URL, heh. It's social software, so you can see your friends' recent bookmarks and search others'... for instance: http://del.icio.us/tag/princeton will theoretically get princeton links :-) My username there is tourmaline.

Ashley '06 (who needs to get OFF the internet for once)

Thanks for the suggestion. Skype looks brilliant! What's the hitch? As in why do they offer the service for free?

Computer-to-computer calling is good advertising for them. For instance, imagine if none of your friends used AIM. Would you? If it's free for all, more people join, and value is added. Furthermore, they hope you'll get addicted and want to use it to call actual phone numbers instead of usernames ("SkypeOut"), or to attach a semi-permanent phone number to it so that people can call you there from ordinary phones ("SkypeIn").

how would you attatch a microphone to lets say, an ibook? and where would u get said microphone? that's the only extra thing you'd need right?

I just use the built-in mic on mine, so the first thing you should do is see if your computer already has one. You're looking for a hole about 1mm across, so it's easy to not realize it's there. If you've got a voice recorder installed, you can test it that way. Otherwise, you've probably got a jack for a microphone somewhere on the case; mine's right next to the headphone jack.

Are the phone conversations recorded?

the one saving grace of the forbes addition: cell phone reception.

O.o what does that mean? Does that mean other colleges don't have cell reception? panics

butler might, but the stone dorms (i.e. rocky/mathey) don't.

sixty seconds.................sixty sixty sixty

Hahaha
See...they don't have it all!
Well, Butler's brick and I'm on the 2nd (top-most) floor so I'll probably be fine.

You get like one bar, and that's if you're near the window.

what about Wilson?

aaaaaaaah....the plus side of living in butler :)

Yea, my words exactly. Now I'm really glad I got Butler, because I'm attached to my cell and it would kill me not to be able to lie in bed at night talking on it.
