Using financial aid for books?

My niece asked me this question, and since I didn't know the answer I thought I'd see of anyone here does.

She's taking summer courses at PSU, and has excess financial aid so she'll be getting a refund - but of course that takes a few weeks. She needs to get textbooks at the bookstore this week, so she wondered if there's any way to use her financial aid for books.

I know some colleges allow students to have a bookstore account, which is then paid for with their financial aid, but I wasn't sure if Penn State does something like that.

Does anyone know if you can use financial aid to get textbooks?

I don’t believe you can use your excess money for books in the beginning of the semester. I’ve always gotten the refund check several weeks into the semester and had to pay up front for books.
