Using Financial Aid

So I enrolled this summer with only two class. My tuition is already paid for since I’m a California resident ( community college ). I believe my aid is around 2k plus and I’m in need of a laptop. Can I use the financial aid money to buy a laptop? I’m not talking about crazy expensive one but at least 500 below.

Have you gotten your aid?

Will it reduce the amount of aid you’d get for fall?

I got my aid for summer ($2960) and I’m not sure if it’ll reduce my aid for fall. I only see $560 for fall and it says BOG FEE WAIVER. For summer it says Pell Grant and that’s the $2960

The aid will go to the college checking acc I opened, affiliated with the college I go to.

This looks like a question you should take to the financial aid office at your CC. I’m sure they have been asked about this before. They will be able to help you find out what your options are.

Your 2960 is based on your taking 12 credits. If you are only taking 6 then your summer PELL will be half of this amount`1480. How much is your tuition?

The summer Pell is part of the 2017-18 financial aid (off the 2017 FAFSA). It does not change the fall FA, at least for the federal aid. The school can do whatever it wants with its own money.

I honestly don’t know how much my tuition is. Someone told me as far as they know it’s okay to use the aid to buy a laptop because the money is technically mine since the whole $2960 will go to my own bank acc.

I have 3 classes for this 2018 fall semester and 2 this summer

They told you wrong. The Pell goes through the school, and the school will pay all billed amounts first. You will then receive anything left over and yes, you can do anything you want with the.

If you aren’t taking the full 12 credits this summer, you’ll only get a percentage.

Tuition is pretty easy to figure out. Go to your school’s web page. Since you aren’t full time, you are probably paying by credit.
