I'm 95% sure I'm going to send in this "unique" essay I wrote for English class last year, based on one of Chicago's prompts last year about the origin of something. It's very impersonal, yet I think it still incorporates my own worldly view. So do you think it would be alright to use this or do they prefer if you use one of the topics they already made up?

a good question.

Personally, I do not think it matters whay prompt you use. You have to show a clear understanding of the prompt and answer the prompt. The way you answer the prompt, i think, is what really matters. The "quarky" examples you use...the diction...the allusions, whatever...you have to make it "Chicago Style". Using last years prompt MAY put you an inch behind, but if you wrote a solid piece then it should not matter.

Good Luck.

I agree completely. If it's a good peice of writing in that UChi style, you can make up for using last year's prompt

Wow. Call me crazy, but I thought I should write something in MY style, not Chicago's style...

it should be your style...which if uchi is right for you should be a uchi style...you know they're a unique school, and they can't be having ordinary answers....they're looking for something special, that's all that's meant by uchi style.

Thank you for the input. And this essay is definitely my style of writing too.
