USMA plebe summer?

I know there is a rigorous summer program at USNA but what about USMA

USNA is really much harder. West Point doesnt have a summer program as "rigorous" as Navy, but it does exist. I believe its 3 weeks of getting to know the campus, followed by another 3 weeks where you go on camping trips and long walks and such. I might go, but I might just get a summer job and show up on A-Day...well see.

ha, very funny, i can pretty much guarentee you usma has a harder summer training schedule. i remember when i was a candidate visiting both schools, the plebes at usna all said they gained weight over the summer. come on now.

Thanks alot, I'll Just have to apply for both summer seminars to see which I like better. I'm thinking NASS might be more exciting but Army SLS might be a little more informative.

Homer09, I've heard at USNA plebe summer you can expect to lose a minimum of 10lbs. Think about it, if Mumford2009 is right it is twice the length of activity and every morning at USNA plebe summer starts out with exercise at 5:30am and, according to the website, the physical and mental demands don't end until very late. I don't think either would be easy, after all they are designed to weed out the weak

You know I was joking right. Do a little research before you ask dumb questions. I'm pretty sure West Point's Cadet Basic Training is more difficicult than Navy's.

I think there is confusion here between SLS and Beast. brn2serve, which one are you talking about? You are talking about SLS, right?

No, I was talking about Beast, I guess. Iknow SLS is the summer program for juniors. I just figured that the summer seminars would help me make my decision. I was just curious if USMA had a required Plebe Summer like USNA because I hadn't seen anything on it.

Yes, USMA requires an intensive, summer-long training regime known as Beast Barracks. It's purpose, as you said, is to weed out the weak, and this is done by a rigorous training schedule meant to exhaust cadet candidates/new cadets both mentally and physically. I wish I had a site that explained it all, but I kind of picked up my Beast information from all kinds of different sources. Bottom line: Beast = Hell on Earth.

Photos and video can show a part of what Beast is:

You can check the other Class year's (upper right), 2007 just happened to have a lot of video footage taken by USMA.

Same for this:

Hehe. Does West Point have an intensive summer program? That's like asking, "Is the Pope Catholic?"

Haha. I am kidding.

Brn2Serve is probably typing up "Is the Pope Catholic" right now as we speak... jk

brn2serve, had you done any research AT ALL you would know that USMA has a BEAST summer.

"It's purpose, as you said, is to weed out the weak"

Perhaps the weak will decide that West Point is not for them, but there is no hidden agenda by the Cadre or USMA to drive Plebes away. The competition to get in is rough, it would be counterproductive to begin pushing Plebes out the door before the summer is over.

I'm in complete agreement with GEB. The purpose of Beast is to transition from a civilian to a military lifestyle. You will learn to be a cadet. The purpose is not to weed out the weak. WP puts way too much effort in selecting their class to begin kicking new cadets out. As difficult as it may be, the goal is to have cadets succeed.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. I was mostly trying to discourage brn2serve from having any false perceptions about Beast, so I exaggerated a little.
