Letter of Assurance (LOA) is a reach, but I’m trying to get one
tore ACL during lax game. Hoping to take CFA in Nov.
Attended SLE, accepted to NASS and Girls State but couldn’t attend due to ACL surgery.
Any advice/feedback would help. I will be sure to chance back; just provide the link with your comment. Thank you all in advance.
I really believe that once a student reaches a threshold of academic, etc accomplishment, which clearly you have met, then all you can say is: yes you are a good candidate for a service academy and it is impossible to predict your actual chances at admission! Really, it is SO random. My best advice is to get moving with the service academy applications asap so that you are able to do the DoDMERB soon (the medical review). That way you will find out if the ACL surgery will be a problem. There is a good probability that the result of that initial medical review will be a request for more documentation and perhaps follow up medical exams, all of which takes time. FYI, I think Navy only takes the math and verbal scores, not the writing. For the ACT, they only use two of the four subsection test scores. But clearly you are competitive! Good luck!
@profdad2021 They said I may get a medical waiver or just be asked a ton of questions about my ACL on the DoDMERB. Also, do they only use the reading and math subsection test scores for the ACT then? And thank you, your advice is much appreciated!
You are a good candidate for each one of your schools. Try to boost up that SAT score to about a 1400 and you are a match. Great ECs and you seem to have a lot of interest in what you are planning to do. Please chance me back @purpledog354
Yes, Navy only two ACT section scores - math for sure, and the other is English (I think). I even checked my kid’s application to see if it is english or reading but mine got the same score for both. So I can’t tell for sure. But it definately is just two subsection scores. About the DoDMERB – all I meant is that the process can be time consuming, with lots of delays on their end. I only meant to encourage you to do what is in your power to get that part of your application going sooner rather than later.
