USNA I-Day Countdown

I hope plebe summer goes as fast as this countdown. My senior year is flying by.....

85 more days

Don't count on it mdlrnc...

Going through it, the summer seemed to last forever, but it was over before we knew it. "The days are long, but the weeks are short."

85 days to '11 I-Day...but more importantly, 45 to Herndon!!!

Dmeix: what company, may I ask???

26th-Rough Riders

^^^^thorpedo is right behind you in the 27th!!!

haha...you mean right above! He's on 8-1 and two-six is on 8-0.

I've probably run into him while chopping to get on deck...would you mind PMing me his name?

43 Days...

I believe we are ate 83 days! WOW!

That's not very many hugs -
Hope you've doubled up by now! :)

Realizing how scarce hugs become once they get to college age, I've instigated the rule that no one leaves the house w/out giving mom a hug!

...and when the mid comes home on leave that rule is strictly enforced!

Get 'em while you can!

DMeix: sent you some intell!

Let me know if you are headed to the lax game friday nite....Navy takes on Maryland at 7pm and it is going to be great!!!!!! Navy will win of course!!! :)

BZ2010! Dont remind me.. hugs are definitely scarce :(. The Lola family is headed to the beach for R&R this weekend.

Happy Easter everyone!

Hmmm...won't be going out to the game on Friday due to a mandatory range cleaning on the pistol range.

I believe it's next weekend that the entire brigade will be going to the LAX game, so I'll definitely be at that.

Just looked up your son on MIDS...apparently we have swimming together, but there are four sections in there at once, and I don't believe he's in mine...I'll pay attention this coming Monday though.

DMeix.. what has been the hardest thing about the past year? what was the best?

Mmm...wow...what a question.

I'm not gonna lie and say I've never dropped the IHTFP phrase...and the intensity has definitely picked up. The remainder of the year is going to be reminiscent of plebe summer. Right now we're in first for color company, but according to the upperclass we're failing at everything except for being ratey. Pretty sure they're just getting in one last stab at 'training' us before Herndon.

Anyway...the Best:
I've heard combat described as long hours of boredom punctuated by moments of extreme terror. That's kinda like plebe year. Long hours of academic work, PT, plebe 'fun', class, etc. If you don't find ways to mix it up, the routine will get to you and quickly drag you down.

At the beginning of the year, there is kind of a 'welcome back' party on Farragut...BBQ, live music, all sorts of fun like a huge slip-and-slide, sumo wrestling, human bowling, etc. Then Army Week with all of it's shenanigans. I think my favorite night so far has been the Beat Army pep-rally. After the festivities, we went back and did 'carrier landings' in the p-way. It's pretty much making the entire hallway into a slip-and-slide. We did some 'jousting' with our mattresses also. I came away with some good bruises, but it was great!

Then there's the Monster Mash and Worden Whirl competitions. I loved the MM. A team of 7 (at the naval station) runs from the water, to the O-course, through that, then back to the E-course to pick up several 30 lb packs and go through the E-course. Pretty painful, but lots of fun.

The Dark Ages are exactly that: dark, freakin' cold, and boring. The best part is that there are a couple 3 day weekends and no football games to eat away the precious 10 hours of Saturday Liberty. (Don't get me wrong...I LOVED football season, it's just nice to finish SMT and get to relax for the rest of the day or go out.)

The Hardest/worst:
Coming from a year of college, I think I had a distinct advantage over my classmates academically and militarily due to ROTC. That was true, but I also think I had the hardest time adjusting from being completely free and independent to 'having less freedom than the average middle-schooler.' I remember stretching on the field during PEP on I-Day plus 1, thinking to myself..."WHAT THE @#$% WHERE YOU THINKING?!?!" And even now, I really miss UW and all my buddies out there (I'm going back for Intercessionals).

A LOT of the stuff you do as a plebe (and I'm sure as an upperclass as well) is just plain not fun. You're going to have to deal with extreme double-standards and condescending attitudes like never before. You just have to develop a 'suck-it-up' attitude.

They say this place is the 'leadership laboratory.' Pay attention to every upperclass. You're going to see good and bad examples of leadership here. Personally, I feel like I've witnessed/been the guinea pig for a lot more bad leaders than good. But you just have to develop what YOU feel is the most effective method and find what works. Remember both the good and bad leaders. Emulate what you saw in the good; avoid or remedy what you saw in the bad.

That's my quick take on things. It's past TAPS, and I really need to get to bed...any Qs, just ask.

Thanks Dmeix! That was very enlightening, My D (Glitterhairdye) is currently a freshman at University so she may have some Q's for you for going from "adjusting from being completely free and independent to having less freedom than the average middle-schooler."

I know you will one one of those good leaders as an upperclassman.

Thanks for sharing and best of luck with the rest of plebe year!

And the countdown is now at 82 days!

HAPPY EASTER! Off to the Tybee Island!

I don't know where my mommy is but 80 days for her.
wow. that's insane...

79 days Princess Glitter! :)

78 days til the big day

Is this true???? WOW!!!! Now I will definately have to come down for the game!!!

The loss to Maryland was a heartbreaker.... Navy in the lead up to the final 7 seconds, then Maryland tied it up..... 2 overtimes later, they took an identical shot.... but what an effort by the Blue and Gold!!!

ps... no fair...now you have to PM me with your name, so I can forward it to the thorpedo!!!!
