USNA plebe parent weekend

Thurs 10th from Oregon and leave Mon 14th to go home. That's the correct schedule? Also, do the plebes have to go back to the dorms on both Fri and Sat. night and just see us during the day?

I am so sad that my husband and I can't go to I day. Thankfully, grandma and grampa are going. Is there any way to get video of the I day festivities etc...grandparents are in their 80's?

Great schedule for PPW. Plebes definitely had to report back on Friday night and the last couple of years that had overnight liberty on Saturday. Hopefully, that will be the same this year....but you never know. We actually received a very nice book on PPW which highlighted the I-Day and Plebe Summer festivities. There was also a DVD of the summer's festivities. I believe that both were a gift from the Alumni Association. You will also probably hear about the Thornton Studios and the various DVDs and photos that you can purchase. They are specific to your Plebe's company and squad. We did purchase the I-Day one and saw our Plebe many times including behind the doors of Alumni Hall during the inprocessing and during the transfer to Bancroft and also the Oath of Office Ceremony. We have enjoyed it tremendously. We watched the video with our Plebe who indicated that it was "the longest day of my life." I am sure that some day, he will enjoy watching it with his family. Bottom line is that you can view many pictures posted online by the Academy of the events of the I-Day. Once Plebe Summer begins, they will post many, many photos on the Academy Webpage. You will also find many photos on www.usna.org, the website run independently by parents. It became a favorite way to pass the time looking for "Waldo" in the many photos trying to catch a glimpse of your own Plebe.

usnamom- (since you gave me such good advice on the flag case)....it sounds like the DVD's were worth getting- any suggestion on ordering them?

We really enjoyed the videos and we also bought a couple of photos of our Mid and his squad that were taken during the summer. You will probably hear a variety of opinions on the videos. If your Plebe is featured frequently in the video footage, it will be worth the price to you. If not, the opinion will most likely not be positive. We found it to give us real insight into all the events of Plebe Summer. Don't forget, you will not hear from your Plebe very much during this period and many of the things that they do are a real mystery. Being able to watch many of the training events was enjoyable for us. They also posted a daily schedule by company that would let you know what your Plebe was doing on a daily basis---validation exams, sailing, obstacle course, endurance course, etc. I think that we received a brochure through our parent's club but their website was www.plebesummer.com.
