It is. I did not repeat without Wash U, since dropping Caltech, with a huge discrepancy between WSJ and other rankings, had no effect.

Do the results of your analysis change very much when you exclude the 5 publics? Does the equation account for more or less among private universities?

Interesting thought. I will check. It also raises a confound. Since the publics are bunched at the bottom, we may not be able to tell whether taking them out shows a public effect, or a lower ranking effect. As you point out, there are only 5 of them, so taking them out might not change much anyway. I'll let you know what I find.

This is a nice ranking. Measure much more relevant factors compared to the one produced by USNews.

Hmm this seems to follow what my basic perceptions are pretty closely. haha, what I think has no weight whatsoever, but to me these look pretty accurate. maybe dartmouth should be a litter bit further down the list, but whatevs

Oh, you’re going to have to be a great deal more specific than that when leveling accusations.

25% Peer Assessment –> Can’t be gamed
20% Retention –> Can’t be gamed
10% Finances –> Can’t be gamed
8% Class Sizes –> Can’t be gamed
5% Graduation Rate –> Can’t be gamed
3% Highest Degree for Faculty –> Can’t be gamed
1% Student-Faculty Ratio –> Can’t be gamed
1% Full-Time Faculty –> Can’t be gamed

7% Faculty Pay –> Can be gamed, but Penn and WUStL faculty are not paid that well. Probably not being gamed.
[The Chronicle: AAUP Faculty Salary Survey](http://chronicle.com/stats/aaup/)

5% Alumni Giving –> Can be gamed, but Penn and WUStL are not in the top 6. Probably not being gamed.

1.5% Acceptance Rate –> Can be gamed, but Penn and WUStL not in top 10. Probably not being gamed.

7.5% SAT scores –> Can be gamed. Penn doesn’t do terribly well, but WUStL does. Possible gaming.

6% Top 10% –> Can be gamed. Penn and WUStL arguably game this.

IBClass, Class size and Finances can also be gamed, and even if they weren’t unless they are taken into context, are very misleading. But I agree with the rest of your assessment.
