Where did you all get the March 1 message? My dashboard is unchanged
@pinkzebra1234 they all reverted back to normal. they were posted on the mystatus page.
I checked my daughters this morning and everything was the same, no change in wording. She is non auto, applied in September. Checked again a moment ago and everything is still status quo…
To those unclear about where/when the message appeared, I noticed mine on my mystatus homepage at around 11:20 am EST and it was gone before noon. It definitely seems like they realized the confusion they caused, and took the message down to avoid any further confusion. I recommend checking the admissions twitter for any future updates on the issue, as a few people have already asked them about the message and are awaiting a response.
Gone
Does anyone know if there will be a big wave or acceptances or denials this Friday, or will the big wave be on February 1? Also, are deferrals a possibility for the priority deadline?
Message is gone for me as well
Just got an email notifying me that I’m a Forty Acres Semifinalist!
What are the chances there will be a wave today?
I doubt it. No one really can be sure of anything at this point, so who knows.
@grenmeh What is Admin Twitter handle? THANK YOU.
And peace to everyone during this stressful situation, even the admin folk down at UT, and especially those who were impacted by the hurricanes.
I called and they said it was just a technical error - nothing more than that. And that they plan to have the priority applicants done by the 1st and if not, then they’ll do them before any non priority applicants.
I filled out my application for the regular deadline (December 1), but I didn’t have time to do any of the honors applications. I thought I would have time, but I ran out so I canceled all of the applications. Will they see that I canceled these applications, and if so will that lower my chances of acceptance somehow?
A former UT AO (the one who wrote “Your Ticket to the Forty Acres” wrote a post addressing this problem today on Reddit. In it he wrote: There is a rumor on College Confidential that UT has changed their policy about the February 1 release where students will receive either a yes or no instead of a deferral. This rumor is not true. Priority applicants will receive either an admission or deferral until March 1 as per their official policy.
@Kd6410 does that mean there will be no rejections until march 1?
@Kd6410 can you link the Reddit post
@kelly123s I tried but mods won’t let me (or at least haven’t approved the original post I made with the link it in) - the username is BlueLightSpcl so you can look under his posts

“Thousands of first-time freshman applicants who completed their application by November 1 received this message in what was evidently a technical error. I’ve been monitoring the situation to see how it has unfolded.
At first when I received word of this notification, it meant the expected wave of deferrals they promised to release by February 1. This doesn’t seem to be the case because the message disappeared shortly after.
It is unfortunate that this message was sent around 11am on a school day disrupting lunch and classrooms. I’ve had a number of people reach out directly and there is a lot of concern on online communities like Reddit and College Confidential. Thousands of students and families have been affected by this lapse in judgement especially those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
It appears no student gained admission during this time. It also means that since everyone who applied early and hasn’t been admitted received this notification, your admissions chances are not affected.
UT has received a record number of completed applications this year and appears behind on their file review reading process. I suspect this technical error is due to the growing pains of this new deadline and possibly other unknowable internal changes.
There is a rumor on College Confidential that UT has changed their policy about the February 1 release where students will receive either a yes or no instead of a deferral. This rumor is not true. Priority applicants will receive either an admission or deferral until March 1 as per their official policy.
I don’t doubt that an admissions member erred in saying that some students would be rejected, but I have confirmed that their intent is not to reject anyone prior to February 1.
What this means for applicants and families is to continue waiting. I understand this is a very stressful and uncertain time in your lives. College admissions won’t be the last time you confront an unpredictable situation with unknown outcomes.
Whether it’s scholarships, fellowships, internships, graduate or medical school, corporate hiring, or college programs, this will be the first of many gates you will pass through to achieve your long-term academic and professional goals.
It is up to each person and family to determine how they manage their stress, anxiety, and expectations. Unfortunately, official errors make this process all the more frustrating and dispiriting. Hang in there.”
I totally understand that ut is overwhelmed by the amount of Priority Applications. However, what irritates me is they have obviously read and issued acceptances to non-priority applicants before they finished reviewing all of the priority applicants. If you promise one group something then please show us the common courtesy of plowing through those first before you begin spending time on the regular applications.
