UT Austin Dean's Scholars Fall 2017 Admission

D still hasn’t heard about CNS HSS Scholar’s program. Has anyone else heard? Her honor’s tab still says under review.

@HankE, nope! We’re in the same boat, too, for my D! Fingers crossed…

@CollegeDadTX Thank you! It sometimes feels like everyone else has heard!

So… is being invited to Best of Texas a good or bad thing regarding honors admission? Either they’re inviting me because I wasn’t invited to a honors program session, or they invite some honors students to BoT

My D just got invited too. Wondering same thing.

@HankE Found this on a thread last year: “students who are accepted to Plan II Honors, Business Honors Program, or other honors programs likely will not receive an invitation for the Best of Texas event since those honors programs have their own event.”

Obviously we haven’t been accepted/denied yet, so you probably shouldn’t infer anything from this invitation (or maybe that’s just my optimism speaking).

@Aristos So maybe those that applied to honors and weren’t accepted given invitation to BOT? Although I know someone that was accepted to McCombs and did not apply to honors was invited to BOT.

@Aristos Also, BOT could be targeting OOS. Are you OOS?

No, I’m in-state.

Hmmm. Son received his email invite to BOT yesterday, but he already received Dean’s Scholar. He went to the CNS Honors event last Monday so I doubt he will go back again for BOT. Would make sense not to invite to both, but he did receive the email.

My son is Deans Scholar. What are the chances that he will receive scholarship money?

At the CNS Honors Event, they said about 50% of Honors Students receive some sort of scholarship money. Didn’t specify between the different honors programs though.

Thanks for the info. My son isn’t scheduled to go to the Honors Event until late March.

Does anyone know how the Honors Housing works? We haven’t accepted admissions yet as my son is waiting to hear on the Ivy’s he’s applied to so we have only put the $50 down to hold a spot in the que for housing. He did this back in October. If he decides to attend UT he won’t accept admissions until April. Will that effect his housing or do Honors kids get specific dorms?

@collegeadmiss -This will not effect his housing. If he decides to attend UT he will select the Honors Dorms as his first choice when he completes his contract.

The 3 dorms for guys are: Andrews, Blanton & Carothers. You CAN’T specify which one of those you prefer- they just assign you to the quad & one of the A-B-C’s. It is a great community!

@collegeadmiss I’m not 100% sure on how everything works, but I believe that you have to accept the enrollment deposit to receieve any sort of housing contract. If you’re worried about housing, you can accept and pay the enrollment deposit now without being locked out of other universities - you can update your decision to attend (and receive a refund) up until May 1st.

You really don’t need to worry about it until after he finds out from other schools in April. You can wait on the enrollment deposit.

@collegeadmiss - @bookmom7 is absolutely right. At the CNS honors event, they told us to be sure the $50 housing application was paid. That is the only thing that needs to be done to hold a spot until you decide (by May 1). Don’t accept admissions and pay housing deposit unless you have decided to attend UT.

Thanks!

Is there any financial assistance or scholarship with Dean’s Scholar Program? I am trying to understand if there is any relationship between “Scholar” and “Scholarship”
