UT Austin Fall transfer: Entire academic year's GPA considered? or ONLY Fall GPA?

Hi, i'm a freshman at a private university hoping to transfer back home and go to UT Austin beginning in Fall of 2010.
I am just about to complete my first semester(fall 2009) as a freshman and I did not perform as well as I usually do, not awful, just I know I can do better. Next semester (spring 2010) I will be in the major I plan on pursuing and I will be taking classes I know I am good at and I foresee great chances of getting a 4.0 next semester which would boost my overall first year GPA.

So my main purpose is: if I apply for Fall 2010 transfer, will my Spring 2010 grades be considered in my admissions decision or will the admissions office only consider my fall 2009 grades for admission?

They will consider both, because you are required to have 30 hours before transferring, and I highly doubt you have completed those in this first semester. When you apply you will indicate which courses are in process, and UT will require your spring transcript before confirming your admission for fall.

You’re a Texas resident, yes? And what major are you trying to get into?

Great, Thank you!

Yes I’m a Texas Resident. I’m applying as a Psychology major in the College of Liberal Arts.

Also, at the end of the second semester of my freshman year I will have roughly 40 hours of college credit. 31 hours from College courses, and 9 from AP exams.

COLA is one of the easier colleges to get into, and UT does give preference to TX residents, so that should help you. The minimum GPA for transfers in COLA is 3.2, but the unspoken “guarantee” GPA is 3.5. Just keep your grades up as high as you can, take honors courses if your CC offers them, and take your time on your essays. Feel free to PM me if you need any help, and also check out the UT specific board - lots of us transfers (and freshman applicants) over there, good advice from people who’ve been through it all and can keep you occupied while you’re waiting for your admission decision in the spring. Good luck, and hook 'em!
