I am an international senior looking to apply at UT Austin for Mechanical Engineering. In their website, at this link, http://www.utexas.edu/tuition/attach/2015_16_Undergraduate_Traditional_Tuition.pdf the tuition fees is $17,141 for a non-resident in Engineering.
However, it seems to be quite less when compared to other colleges like UMich, GA Tech,…etc which are around $45,000. Am I missing something here?
Well, that is the per semester rate.
Here (https://www.utexas.edu/tuition/costs.html) it says “2015-16 Long Session (One Semester Only)”.
So it is for a year isn’t it?
I have a general question: How is a semester different from a year? (How many semesters in a year?)
That’s per semester, and that’s only tuition. When u add room, meals, etc, that’ll add another ~8k per semester.
So total cost of attendance for Fall+Spring will be ~50k.
@GMTplus7 50K ???!!! Damn that’s a lot.
I am still utterly confused, I have a few questions:
Considering rooms, meals, etc to be 10K (max) then the total amounts to $27,141 which is still almost half of the aforementioned colleges.
So, I come back to my previous question : How many semesters are there in a year? Shouldn’t it be 1 from this “2015-16 Long Session (One Semester Only)” ?
There are Fall, Spring & Summer semesters. Typically students don’t do summer, just fall+spring. So for a normal academic year, count on paying for 2 semesters/year: 2 X $17k for tuition = $34k tuition
Room, board, expenses will run u about $8k/semester: 2 X $8k = $16k expenses
34k + 16k = 50k
@GMTplus7 Oh OK, thanks a lot. That cleared up a major confusion.
