I'm getting an undergraduate degree in Computer Science. I'm wondering what you think will give me a better education and give me better chances at the Graduate School I'd like to attend.

Thanks very much.

I would say go to UTAustin, #7 in comp sci, and since your in state the tuition is much better than ucsd

UT Austin is a great school. I live in Texas and considered going there, but a lot of kids from my school go there and I kind of wanted to get away from my high school experience so I can grow up more. The city is really cool, too. It's pretty liberal, there's quite a bit of music and food. The girls also seem to be quite good. I noticed that with the big TX schools like UT and A&M. Plus, it should be cheaper in-state tuition. I say UT for the win!

UCSD's computer science program is also quite good but I'm not sure it would be worth paying the extra costs associated with coming to California to pick it over UT Austin.

You should also compare the overall life style of the two schools. UCSD does not have the same sort of "college town" feel as UT Austin. Social life is much more sedate at UCSD. Many students move off campus after freshman year and since there is only limited affordable housing close to campus, they spread out over the entire San Diego area which makes meeting people harder. A car is a necessity at UCSD after freshman year, in my opinion. Housing is also expensive. But, educationally, they are both great schools - just some factors to weigh and consider.
