Got accepted into both for engineering college. Which is a better choice and why. Out of state for both.

I think you have to look at the ‘type’ of college experience you want since UCSD and UT Austin are completely different environments.

I live near UCSD and it is a great academic school but doesn’t have the social college culture and tradition of UT Austin. Go to UCSD if academics are number one and you plan on going to Grad school. Go to UT Austin if you are also interested in sports, Greek, etc

Both are fabulous schools but so very different… have you had a chance to visit both?

Planning to visit soon. A big concern is the funding for UCSD. With CA being bankrupt, will it affect the UCs? I heard they’re planning to close four libraries at UCSD next year. What about job/internship prospects at UCSD? With so many other better universities in CA, do employers tend to go to those universities first?

which type of engineering? Only for biomed eng. will the opportunities in San Diego be better than those in Austin. Austin has a huge computer science community.

Planning to study electrical & computer systems engineer.

Academically UT Austin is the much stronger school for computer science.

socalmother is correct about UT offering a great social atmosphere (and you don’t have to be a Greek or a jock to have fun–there is something for everyone!).

UT Austin is one of the top Computer Engineering schools overall and I personally think the undergraduate curriculum in particular is better than most. You also have the booming tech industry in Austin for job/internship prospects.
