Hi, I recently got accepted to UT Austin and UT Dallas for Biology.
I plan on pursuing the pre-med track and was wondering which college I should attend to have the highest chance to get accepted into medical school. I can afford UT Austin but the important thing is which college will be a better fit for me. I live in Dallas so if I attend UTD I will have to commute but if I attend UT Austin I will be staying in the dorms. Overall, which college will be easier to maintain a high GPA in?
Both will be alot of work to keep the high GPA. Also, look beyond the GPA at research opportunities. I am more familiar with UTD’s program which has a 72% acceptance rate to medical school. Out of the top 55% of the students, approximately 90% are accepted. I also know my DD’s roommate has been doing research since the freshman year there. Maybe somebody here can give you the stats for UT. Also, the money you save can go to paying for medical school which would be a nice bonus.
Take the money and go to UTD. It makes no difference for pre-med. Get a high GPA and good MCAT and you will be all set.
Are you an out of state student?
Depends upon want you want from your college experience. Would you be comfortable living at home while attending college ?
Since you got a full ride, you should live on campus at UTD. Or if it was a typo and you meant a full tuition scholarship, your parents being able to pay for UT should thus have the money to pay for just room and board at UTD, thus ensuring you can participate in evening study groups and study sessions, organize your schedule according to your need, and have a full college experience.
